I am a recent college graduate with a BA in International Business and complete fluency in Spanish. I am seeking to work in the Twin Cities area preferably using my language abilities combined with my experience in Latin America and International Business.
My husband and I are considering moving to the Minnesota area to be closer to our families in the midwest. I am a K- 12 school counselor (I prefer elementary)and my husband a 4th/5th grade teacher and he is certified to teach secondary biology as well. I was wondering if anyone might know about websites for counselor/teacher job openings in the Minneapolis and suburbs area. Thanks for your help!

I'm conducting a one question survey. If you have taken the Praxis II Content Knowledge Exam in your discipline, did you find the exam valid? Yes or No and Why or why not? This information will be used to determine whether or not to use this exam as a measure of content knowledge for teachers applying for advanced compensation. We already have portfolio and performance measurements, but we are trying to determine which exam would be appropriate to get an objective measure of content knowledge.

I took the Praxis I exam twice, eleven years apart. In the objective testing areas and my area of Family & Consumer Education, at least, it is a valid test of product, skill and content knowledge. The short essay areas covering classroom management and discipline, however, were vague, not well constructed and had no correct answer. New teachers with no classroom experience other than student teaching probably have a difficult time passing this part.

It seemed outrageously specific! I have been a teacher for 20 years. Ideas, philosophies, strategies change. To test specifics seems too narrow. In addition, it seemed to be extremely labor intensive.

Could someone direct me to a listing of the most important Minnesota writers (historic and contemporary)? I understand that there was a directory with biographies for high school teachers put out a few years ago by someone named Benton. I'm looking for a list of writers of poetry, drama and fiction.
It depends on where you are. Lakeshore Learning is in St. Louis Park off of Park Place and 394. Hammett's Learning World is in Blaine near Northtown. There are others around town, too.

I used this company for numerous resource books that involve the Four Blocks literacy model for second grade. They were speedy with the order and their staff even called to make sure the order was what i expected. They are a great online tool.
I teach kindergarten in Las Vegas, Nevada and have choosen Minnesota to teach about for my school's multicultural night event. Does anyone have suggestions of what I can focus one at a kindergarten level on Minnesota? And would anyone be willing to send me anything to share with my class?

It is pretty much a done deal. There is a draft of the new reading and math standards at the cfl website. They look much better than those asinine performance packages they have been subjecting us to the last five years. They are just straightforward objectives like: "First grade students must count to 120 and identify numbers 0-120."
