Public education in Texas is in BIG trouble! We have a politician in Austin who is from Arlington, and is the head of the education committee. His name is Kent Grusendorf anf he hates teachers! He blames teachers for his son's suicide, and has been punishing teachers since he was elected. If he gets re-elected, we will lose our continuing contracts. We'll also lose our 22-1 class cap for K-3, and our 30-minute duty-free lunch (I never knew those existed until I came to Texas!) He supports vouchers, which as we all know takes money from public education. There is a lady running against him this year who has a good chance of defeating him. Her name is Diane Patrick. Early voting for this primary election is Feb 21 - March 3, and the regular election is March 7. We have it on good authority that he plans to initiate a nasty smear campaign against her just prior to the primary. Those of us who care about our children are asking that voters who live in District 94 call, write, or email their friends and family to ask them to vote for Diane Patrick. We're even asking those dyed-in-the-wool, straight-Democrat-ticket voters to, JUST THIS ONCE, to vote in the primary, vote early, and vote for Diane Patrick. If you have friends or family in the Arlington, Texas, area please forward this email to them and ask them to help us defeat Kent Grusendorf. Thanks, and have a great rest-of-the-year!

I am looking for a friend that was stationed in the Navy with me. I know at one time she was teaching English/Spanish around St Paul MN somewhere. Her name was Margaret (Miggs) Lane and I think she married now. I would appreciate any help if anyone knows Miggs? Thanks Sue
In 1-05 I accepted a plea agreement for Class D Felony; producing & Distributing Marijuana - my charge was dferred and was to be expunged after 3 years of succesful probation. I completed treatment and all and am in my last year of of probation. I do not fit the sterio type of a criminal, have a lot of potential as well as values. I have taken some college and done well. I was making a decision that a future in teaching would be perfect for me when I recently found out that despite my supposed expungement the charge will always come up when it comes to a teaching license which nowdays requires a federal background check and considers an expungement to be the equivelent of a conviction. That hardly seems right but to my recent surprise durring hours of online research it is true. If you are a techer licensed/hired before about 200 you are not familiar with the new standards...In Iowa, as of 2002 and other states in the same era...expunged charges are now like convictions. I feel like my future has been shattered overnight. Will I be able to be licensed in teaching if I am considered to be a convicted felon? I have never hurt anyone, been involved in violence, or robbed anyone but appearantly I might as well have. I am currently in Iowa however I want to go back to Minnesota when I can (Iowa does not have a section on this site anyway). I would be a great teacher but how can I go through 4 years of school wondering weather or not it will do any good? Can anyone give me any encouraging info or at least info that will prevent me from wasting 4 years persuing this career? can anyone make sense of the chart at the bottom of this website? Appearantly there is no such thing as a real answer since the law is meangingless when it refers to terms like "expunged".
Please don't take this as a personal attack, but based on your grammar and spelling I'm not sure you should be pursuing a teaching career. Maybe you are actually better off counseling youths or doing some sort of social work? I realize that this is merely a message board and that you likely did not intend for every sentence to be grammatically correct, or every word to be spelled correctly. However, given the frequency of your errors, one cannot dismiss this as mere carelessness. Please, for the sake of Minnesota's youth, stick to youth counseling.

It sounds like you are a good youth counselor. This may be your niche. Teaching is a very hard job. Lots of judging goes on by parents, colleagues, and of course the students. Yes, we have all made mistakes in the past. However, some mistakes are more public. If being judged by others is going to hurt you avoid working in a school. I love teaching, but that is one of the hardest things for me even though my record is clean. Your publice record could be fuel for fire by parents, colleagues, etc. Good luck.

This is an invitation to participate in a totally free event that will take place on September 11 and that will be, I believe, of special interest to teachers and librarians. As we are a public library in Illinois with absolutely no budget to give this event the publicity it deserves, we are hoping you will share the information with anyone you think might have an interest.
On September 11, 2006, the Bensenville Community Public Library District (a Chicago suburb) will present Marion Blumenthal Lazan live and in real time to anyone with an Internet connection. To participate, you merely install a small program (it loads in about 20 seconds), turn on your computer's speakers, then sit back and listen to Marion. If you also have a microphone attached to your computer, you will be able to speak with her and ask questions directly.
As a girl, Marion and her family were trapped in Hitler's Germany, and they spent six and a half years in refugee and concentration camps, including Westerbork in Holland and Bergen-Belsen in Germany. They were in a cattle car on their way to Auschwitz when they were finally liberated by Russian troops.
Now in her seventies, Marion is devoting the rest of her life to telling her story. She knows that in a few years there will be no Holocaust survivors left, yet what happened must never be forgotten. Her story does not dwell on the horror of what she experienced. Instead, her message is one of hope and optimism in the face of extraordinary hardship. She implores us to be kind to one another, to embrace diversity, to always retain hope, to respect one another, and to never look away from intolerance and cruelty. Could there be a more powerful or appropriate message on September 11?
Marion will speak to the children of the world on September 11, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., eastern time. She will speak for about 30 minutes, and she will then take questions. She will be speaking in an online auditorium, and there is no charge whatsoever to listen. Our hope is that thousands of children and their teachers will spend that hour on September 11 with Marion. She will tell a story of courage, hope, and the will to survive. Your students (and you) will be mesmerized and inspired.
For more information, including directions for registering for the program and logging onto the website where the online auditorium is located, please just reply to this message to: [email removed]].
If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to me, Bill Erbes, [email removed].
We believe there will be much interest in this event if only we can get the word out that it will be happening. Any help you can offer in spreading the message will be most appreciated.
Thank you.
Bill Erbes Assistant Library Director Bensenville Community Public Library District 200 S. Church Road Bensenville, IL 60106 (630) 766-4642
I am currently working on my B.A in elementary education in Colorado. If all goes well I should have my Colorado license in August of 2007. However, I am also interested in Minnesota. I was wondering what the job market is like for elementary teachers in your state. Is it as rough as the rest of the country? Also, would I need Minnesota licensure before I could apply to jobs in MN? Thanks in advance, Mr. Chandler.
I am a secondary teacher, but from what I know it is REALLY difficult to get almost any type of teaching position here. It seems like it's who you know or just plain luck that gets you a job here. I've seen people get jobs who aren't the greatest teachers, and great teachers not get jobs. I don't think that you need MN licensure before you apply, you just need to prove that you are eligible. A lot of hiring doesn't happen here until end of July- September and some school districts are losing students and cutting teachers.

If you were not… I was there when our President of these United States visited Boston in 2001, and I saw the added security and limousines at terminal b. Overall it wasn’t that bad, which led me to assume that there were several agencies involved in preparation for this visit. Massport knew that I was there, and I’d heard some small talk on the radio about it, but I wasn’t in the airport for very long. The in- tone utterance, while I was standing beside a military officer at the LEX express terminal in Woburn, was the Oklahoma City federal building bombing. President Bush also visited Boston Latin High School on Louis Pasteur Road, where I was the university shuttle, near ‘the Fenway’ and Harvard Medical School area. Not to be confused with nearby Fenway Baseball Park. These were two separate visits with the second after September 11th, 2001. My life includes the patent that was used for the hi- jacking terrorism venue. Again, historic, worthy, proper and practical, as I was there, the only present collective witness of true substance, as an employee from Taunton stalked by Tali Ban. Meanwhile, disappearing from and reappearing behind Logan Inter- national Airport just prior to and on 9 - 11 - 2001. Targeted!
