What does everyone think of Gov. Pawlenty's new idea to restructure the education system? Basically looking at re- tenuring teachers, sending some failing kids to a "educational boot camp" and looking to give some more money when inititves are met.
I personally don't think the union will go for this, nor should they.
I'm trying to re-connect with an old friend - Barb Erickson, teacher in Twin Cities area; married to Ron; mother of Andy & Emily. If you know her, please let me know her email, or pass mine on to her. TYVM. Michele
Most of the metro area here in MN is very safe. (The 20 below weather deters a lot of criminal activity.) A few neighborhoods in North Minneapolis might be a little undesirable..but the Minneapolis Public Schools pay well and usually offer very good benefits. If you are a male??? you have a better chance at obtaining a elementary job otherwise it is difficult. Good Luck!

I need help to pass my ppst math portion, I have taken it 3 times and failed it, I feel like a failure not passing this test is really depressing me,please help me Luisa
I am taking it for the first time in July and I have a math disability. This being, they still did not grant me a calculator. I am taking the computerized combined PPST. I bought the Barrons PPST book with the CD. It is great, the CD gives full sample tests and shows you what you have wrong as well as explains it. Each section I take I am getting higher percentages. I hope I have been studying enough. I also kept my math book from my course last year which was elementary math education 1. Look through any college notes you have or google specific areas that you struggle with, its really helpful.

That being said, you will need to take a series of test called the PRAXIS. You won't be able to just pass those and move on just because you have your degree. Unless, of course, your degree something you could teach at the high school level ONLY (like Biology). But really, that is frowned upon here. For elementary, you'll need to take classes at a college. The one exception is what the state calls a variance. This RARELY happens. If a city (usually a very small town), needs a teacher and no one else qualified is available, you can apply for the position, and the school with apply for a variance from the state This is ONLY done after the school has done an exhaustive search locally and throughout the state. The state has to prove that it did do an exhaustive search and advertised the opening on various sites. And since there's a great surplus teachers elementary teachers here, if they see a job, they'll take it. If you live in the Minneapolis metro area, you can complete these classes through Normandale Community College. I think most of their classes are online now.

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

I just recently took the Physics Praxis 2 in November and passed it with no problem. It did help that I first received my bachelor's in physics but it's not impossible to pass this test. The book that really helped me with it was Physics Super Review by Research & Education Association. the ISBN is 978-0878910878. It has everything broken down for you with practice problems in it! The best part is it's only 10 dollars!!! I highly recommend it. Good luck
Wow. This is not useful information, and anybody asking for help should not recieve this type of feedback. Flashcards would absolutely help. Flashcards are not just used primarily for rote memorization, they are also used for conceptual understanding, such as writing conceptual questions on flash cards so that one may go over them. Although, flash cards may be used for rote learning, they are not always, and it is important to offer useful, encouraging information, rather than shutting someone down.
