We would like to sub in Columbia, MO.... I'm a retired elem. teacher. My husband is a retired administrator. We are from Wisconsin/so carry WI teaching licenses. Is there any one that would know what it takes to sub in Columbia? I realize we need to apply/etc.--will the district accept an out of state license? Is there a long list of subs? Does the system work on a call in the morning system? Is there a need for substitute teachers in Columbia? I'm checking out the website for Columbia....just wondering if someone living there could give us any good advise or some perspective of what to expect. Thanks in advance, Sunrise
Thanks Rosylinn, I will be done in Sept. but not officially living there until October. I will still check into subbing, as I do enjoy it. My hubby is a retired administrator (taught years ago), so we will see where we fit in. I'll keep checking here to see if there are any more updates. Might be seeing you sometime! Sunrise
There is a very good chance I will be teaching in this district next year and that my own children will be in the school system. I'm looking for any info on elementary and middle schools. Where would you work and where wouldn't you, and why? Where would you send your own children if you lived there? Thanks.
I don't know exactly how you have to format your curriculum map, but here is our online curriculum. Maybe it will help you. Click on the subject area in the left navigation bar and then scroll down a little and click on the kindergarten link. It will take you to a page that lists the K GLEs for that subject. Then if you click on the GLE, it will take you to the curriclum guide.
Thanks Addie...good site! It will be very helpful.

What are your schools doing with the third year science requirement. We don't want to require a class that all Juniors have to take, but right now our Junior and Senior level classes are all excellerated and would need to be toned down or have other options offered for those Juniors/Seniors that may not be college bound. I was just wondering what others are doing... Thanks, Tina

Hi...I'm working on alt certification / MAT through the Univ of Central MO. At the end of this fall semester, I'll have 15 hours under my belt and 4 classes to take (plus an internship once I get hired). I'm thinking about applying for temp certification and trying to get a mid- year teaching job. Does anyone know of a school or district that might be hiring for January? If not, I'll focus on next fall of 2008.
Any advice/information anyone could provide would be most appreciated. My area will be ms communication arts.
It might not show up on the end of year evaluation if your co- worker corrects the situation, since it is so early in the year and all other things are good. It probably just depends on how the principal looks at the summative. If he/she looks at it as a report of how things are at that point in time, including improvement or if it is a comprehensive report.
