I'm going to be graduating soon and I live in Missouri. I'm curious to know how to pick from the organizations. I know about NEA and Missouri NEA and MSTA. I really don't know how to go about picking which one is the best for me. Veteran teachers how did you pick? Are you in more than one? And what benefits do you get from your organization?
The District I teach in is represented by NEA so the overwhelming majority of teachers belong to that group. When the board enters negotiations, it's with our district NEA representatives, MSTA isn't involved. It's best to wait until you find what district you'll be teaching in before you make a decision.
Also, the board does not have to reach an agreement with our association, so that's different from a "union". Boards in Missouri don't have to bargain at all, from what I understand. I've been a member for the past 20 years, and there's been many times the school board has reached decisions without any regard to teachers concerns. Basically, you're joining to support what little good they can do, and also benefits like legal fees etc.

Are any of you familiar with this school district? They have an ad for a webmaster on that site that I am well qualified for. My friend says it's not one of the better school districts. I will not be in the classroom so I'm not worried about that. Thanks for any info you all can give me.

As a part of our Caring School program (grades k-2) we are looking at ways to increase positive student to student interactions. We are specifically looking for student led activities. Anyone have any suggestions from thier schools? Thanks!
I am looking to locate Susan, a 5th grade teacher from Missouri who recently went to Vegas. We had a great time but we didn't get a chance to exchange too much personal info. If you know who she is could you please ask her to email me? [email removed])
Where are you? I'v been trying since I got back from Vegas to find you & Brian. Sorry I didn't get your last names. That would have helped me alot!! Does anyone know who would fit her description: 28 years old, blond, tall & thin. Waiting for a reply [email removed])
