Let's share ideas here. What does your school do to motivate junior high students to take their MAP assessments (Comm Arts, Math, and Science) seriously and do their best? Do they get a reward if they try hard, and how do you determine who earns the reward?

Pre-test: The week before MAP testing, students are invited to stay after school for some learning centers activities & snacks & "pumping up" for the test.
During test: Students are rated on a scale (shown to them in advance & based on how they appear to be working, etc.) by an observant teacher & they earn "extra" free time later. This includes some fun, organized activities.
After test: Students' names are entered into a drawing - the # of times is based upon their score on the rating scale - and then have a chance to win prizes.
Being cut for next year: *Elementary Spanish *Elementary lab classes *Elementary secretary -- one of the central offices secretaries will move into that spot. *Elementary counselor *Speech and drama *One high school English teacher (her courses will be split between the Spanish teacher (also Eng certified) and the speech/drama teacher *One cook *One special ed teacher *One special ed paraprofessional
We aren't sure on all the cuts yet,(no decisions have been made) but as of right now we are looking at no career ladder, after school tutoring, and summer school. The district is also looking at pay to play sports. We didn't get a raise last year, and I'm pretty sure that is out this year too. No hiring except for a few of the open teacher positions left from retirment.
What's the latest on career ladder - will it be funded this year?! I imagine it's outta here after this year, but I've still got my fingers crossed that the pay is there for all the hours I've accumulated this year.
Got the newsletter from MSTA a day or so again, and could find no mention regarding CL.
The state people are still indicating that teachers should indicate what level they would plan to be on next year by April 15.

Are active and retired teachers from Missouri concerned the WEP/GPO will REDUCE their earned Social Security distributions because they were public servants? Go to http://WWW.SSFAIRNESS.COM and join the efforts of a grassroots organization trying to overturn these unfair offsets.
I'm an Oklahoma teacher. My husband has recently moved to take a drummer position at one of the shows in Branson. I will be joining him this summer. Are there any science workshops available in that area this summer?

Has anyone created a SmartBoard graph template that meets MO MAP criteria: 10 by 10 grid, line at top for title, line 3/4 inch below for horizontal axis label, a vertical line 3/4 inch to the left to label that axis.

I'm not sure what our coaches get ( I know it is more than what I get), but our district is also very small and we pay about $800/per year for club advising duties. Some may get a little less because they are smaller and not as active. Yearbook doesn't get an additional supplement because that is a class and it is taken care of during class time.
