I live in Springfield, Missouri and have an AA degree. I want to work on getting my Bachelor's in secondary education and am interested in substitute teaching while I do so. I haven't really found the information on what I need as far as certification. Does anyone have information or experience they can share to help me? Thank you.

I subbed in MO before becoming a teacher. All you need is 60 credit hours and you can sub. Just contact the school district and they will have you fill out paperwork and I think fingerprints. That's all you need! Easy. I got so much more valuable experience subbing than I did from practicums or student teaching. I learned to be organized, prepared, and ready to deal with anything. I highly recommend it! Good luck.

James,
I just moved here from NYC. I worked as a sub teacher for over 6 years. I have two college degrees but to no avail. I have not been able to land a full-time teacher job. I passed the LAST back in April 2001 but did not continue with the state certification process.
I hope you like subbing. After 35 years of teaching I retired and have subbed for 3 years. I still like it...esp the one day "gigs"....just in at 8 and out at 4.....no bulletin boards, teacher conferences , report cards. etc. lol
The only thing I don't like is the 6:00 phone calls from the sub coordinator !
Good luck !
