Of course in Oxford it doesn't matter how qualified you are but WHO YOU KNOW, so unless you went to Ole Miss, or have a referral- you can forget it. Said but true.

If your principal doesn't like you- it will be problematic; but if the principal likes you it will be fair.
I am a Caucasian woman who is seeking a degree in SpEd and interpretation, I am suppose to get dreads here shortly, by time I would start working, they would be in a very neat form. I've had teachers of different ethnicity with dreads, but wondering would it be acceptable for me to have them?
Honestly, in most of Misissippi, I would say no if you want to get a job teaching. I'm not saying I think they're inappropriate, but I know people in many MS districts would think so on a white person. San Francisco, LA, or NYC might be a different story. That said, maybe the need for sped teachers might outweigh that.
