What will happen to kids who don't finish the test in one day? Our school has a few kids who work very slowly due to ADD. Will they get another day to finish or will it just be scored as it is?

I haven't heard about that yet. I am sure there is a contingency plan in the testing coordinators materials. My son was the last one at my school to finish. That was around 11:30. But I have heard of two other schools that didn't finish until after 1:00.

Any idea when the 4th grade writing assessment will be scored and distributed to districts? Year before last we saw scores two weeks before school was out!
There is a 3 day workshop at the coliseum in Biloxi the 12th- 14th. You can get 1.7 CEU's for attending all 3 days. There are some art related topics there. Go to the MDE website for more info.

I am thinking about doing National Boards. I have been teaching 5 years in Mississippi. I was wondering if anyone has been through the process and could give me some helpful information. Thanks, Carin
You may want to contact the GCEIC and see if they can put you in contact with some people who are in your area. Down here on the Coast, they do a workshop for 4 days, and then you can get into a mentoring group with people who have been through it. They may be able to help you out. I think the web address is [link removed].

I have been through the process, and I certified my first attempt. I have also scored national board entries. The best advice I can offer is to get with a mentoring program. They give you much help and support!

Here's some things that I thought about as I gave the 3rd grade LA MCTII test. This is a much harder test. They cannot "fake" it as they have in the past. They really have to know what they are doing. It seems that in the past few years, I have gotten soooooo many students in 3rd grade with PROFICIENT scores, but amazingly enough cannot read well enough to get through a 3rd grade comprehension selection they have never read before. This is the first time in our district when there is not two adults in the room and students are expected to do a lot more independently. All of a sudden I find that I have more than 1/3 of my class who are basically needing to go back to first grade skills and relearn how to read the right way. This is very frustrating to a third grade teacher. Where's the accountability to those teachers who failed to teach these students the difference between short and long vowels, sight words, and other important skills that are NOT supposed to be taught in third grade. According to the new framework, all this should be taught prior to third grade, but if there's no accountability, then whose shoulders does is fall on?
I'm going to a lower grade next year due to the fact that I feel that is where I will make a bigger difference. I feel there is not enough accountability on teachers at this level, and this is where basics are taught and habits are formed. This is more important than administrators realize.
How can a third grade teacher start the year by teaching main idea when her students can't even tell the difference between the word hid and hide?
