Here's some things that I thought about as I gave the 3rd
grade LA MCTII test. This is a much harder test. They
cannot "fake" it as they have in the past. They really
have to know what they are doing. It seems that in the
past few years, I have gotten soooooo many students in 3rd
grade with PROFICIENT scores, but amazingly enough cannot
read well enough to get through a 3rd grade comprehension
selection they have never read before. This is the first
time in our district when there is not two adults in the
room and students are expected to do a lot more
independently. All of a sudden I find that I have more
than 1/3 of my class who are basically needing to go back
to first grade skills and relearn how to read the right
way. This is very frustrating to a third grade teacher.

I understand what you are saying, but this is why we need more
cross grade cooperation. Teachers don't really know what is
taught from one grade to the next unless they happen to have
been there. I moved from K (where 95% of my kids were reading)
