I meant to say the December 2015 checks ARE less than normal. Does anyone know why?

Staying positive Dumbanddumber, your response to Steve was harsh and doesn't even make sense. Steve's reply had nothing to do with state lawmakers. All he is saying is that the amount you have taken out of your paycheck from check to check doesn't alter the amount that is due when you file your taxes.

With state taxes we all had to update out withholdings a year or so ago because the state lawmakers did decide to start penalizing for claiming allowances that were not close to accurate. That did annoy me but not a big deal. It does not change the end result.

With your federal, if, for instance, I am supposed to end up having paid $5,000 by the end of the year and the county took out $6,000 either because I had too few allowances or because they took out the same amount on everyone for the bonuses or supplements then I get $1,000 back in federal when I file.

In the end, you pay the same amount of taxes based on your income and deductions, etc. regardless of how much your county takes out from your paycheck.

This has nothing to do with how Steve or I anyone else feels about the legislature. This is simply how taxes work.

I personally have written and called and shown up in person to my state legislators about the things I think are rotten. Currently the thing that I'm focused on is how labor is to be taxed from here on out while those making the highest incomes get a tax cut. I recently had to pay $6,000 to redo my septic. I was fortunate that was before this tax on labor as that would have increased my cost by hundreds. Those with the least money who have old cars and old dwellings are going to be hit the hardest.

dumbanddumber Not harsh - just reality. They are and have been trying to make things more and more convoluted so the average Joe can't figure out what is going on. The party of " less government" has increased its complexity exponentially. It's just a fact. Sorry if that makes you upset.

Staying positive I'm not in any way upset with your take on what is going on in our legislature. I was simply pointing out that you are taking Steve's (and possibly my) explanation of the fact that check to check deductions don't affect the net result on taxes as political support.
