This school year will be my 15th year of teaching elementary in NC. I know with 100% certainty that I will not make it to 30 years. I've been seriously thinking of resigning after my 20th year. I will only be 42 years old at that point and I realize I won't be able to draw a reduced retirement until the age of 50. I thought about doing certified substituting or leaves until I reach 50. Has anyone done something similar to this? If so, how did it work out? I know someone that resigned after she had her first child. She had about 6 years in at that point and thankfully she qualifies for the state health insurance when she does retire. Since she resigned she has been subbing and doing some paid reading intervention at my school. She really enjoys the short term remediation/intervention stints. I would love to do this because the accountability and pressure are nothing compared to what I'm doing now.
