Help me understand exactly how my sick days and annual leave days work at retirement. Let's say I have the following at the end of the school year:

- 195 sick days

- 35 annual leave days

- 5 personal days

At the end of any school year, annual leave days in excess of 30 "roll over" to sick days, so at the end of school this would become 200 sick dates /30 annual leave day /5 personal days.

Since it'd be my last year, would the 30 annual leave days + 5 personal days become sick leave, giving me 235 sick days /nothing else ?
beenthere You'll get a nice check for the 30 annual leave days. I recommend rolling it over into a 457 to avoid hefty taxes right now. You can donate the excess to people who need them or roll them over to sick days. There's a quirky formula about how the sick days are applied for service years. beenthere Correction - I think some personal leave can be converted to sick leave...but the formula they use to calculated years of service knocked mine out.

Jeff My understanding is that the personal days also roll into sick leave. Every 20 days of sick leave equals a month that gets added to your years of service. Any day greater than 20, adds another month. So if you have 20 days, you earn a month. If you have 21 days, you have 2 months. If you have 40 days, you still only have 2 months.
