I am a 14th year teacher in North Carolina. My wife keeps bugging me about moving to North Dakota. I have a Master's degree and make 48,500 a year. Here in North Carolina, the starting salary is low 30s. The top 30+ year salary is about $64K/year. She's all excited about the big oil/population boom and wants me to apply to schools in ND. I object because I tell her if I save my sick days (I currently have 110) I can retire in 15 years and then we can move wherever the heck she wants. We live in a nice town and work in a nice school. I would probably loose my NC pension and have to start all over as a "first year teacher" and take a $8,000 pay cut. Who's crazy- me or her? Are things that fantastic in ND? How are working conditions for teachers? Any advice would be appreciated. Be as brutally honest as you want :)
