I have been working on intergrating more coop.
learning experience into my classroom. I have used
group activities for labs, of course. But i would like to try
some new things that have been used successfully by
other science teachers. I have found that many times
groups of three work fairly well. It seems that when
students really work on a task or project together the
key concepts can be reinforced in those having trouble.
Close monitoring is essential to provide all students
the chance to interact in a positive manner. Students in
large groups or with powerful group members tend to
hold back. In science, so many activities in the 'Real
World' rely on working as a group effectively.
The engineers and 'industrial/real' chemists often
develop and work on projects together.
Thanks for you help or suggestions.
Susan
