Do you want an opportunity to take part in research that could positively impact your students and your classroom? By participating in our short survey, you will be helping us collect data for a study investigating obstacles and feasibility of psychological recommendations. Because these scenarios may be similar to what you have seen in your classroom, your input is very valuable! Once you complete the survey, you will be eligible for a $25 gift certificate to reallygoodstuff.com. Please feel free to pass this along to your teacher friends and co-workers as we need as many responses as we can get! All responses are completely confidential and participation is optional. Thank you!

I am impressed with NE. I am from NV but I was at NE's state reading convention in Kearney. I was a speaker--the person talking about 'ebooking it' for anyone who was there.
I am bragging to everyone in NV about your organization of Reading Councils across your state. What a super idea. gh

Georgia,
Thank you! I am from Kearney and was unable to attend this year- Wanted to, but, my schedule didn't allow it. We usually have quite a large attendance for the Reading Council. Did you get the chance to visit 'The Arch?'
I passed under it both ways to and from Lincoln but, no I did not. You see, I was so captured by your dinner speaker, an illustrator who once won the Caldecott that I was late getting to my plane in Lincoln. In fact, I got lost in Lincoln. So I had to rebook on another airlines to get home to Reno. I meant to; I wanted to but I was captured by your reading conference in the best way possible.
I was told by many a teacher to visit it, that it was a must- see. It is another reason to come back to NE for me, at least.
Something I must say to every teacher in NE so I start with you: I know that you have a lower pay scale than other states and I know your governor is nuts to allow this, but, you have a State Reading Organization, freedom to teach, and real communication going on between teachers. You can't buy that or pay for that. You guys have something I have not seen in California, Nevada, or South Dakota--where I have been talking my talk. I tell you this because as soon as I got home I emailed the local Superintendent to tell him all about NE.
And, the friendliness and concern of NE for me, the outsider, was outstanding. I so appreciated that--I know what the opposite feels like from other states.

Tip to use Alejandro's books in the classroom: Several schools are using Alejandro's books, "books written by a peer", as following: 1.- they give the students a chapter to read 2.- they discuss the chapter in class 3.- they ask the kids to write something similar based on their own personal experiences.
