Are there special ed jobs in NH? How difficult is it to get hired? After doing several practicums in several grades, I have found that I loved my special ed placement. Much more than any of the regular ed placements. I am still working on my certification in AZ and will be dual certified in special ed/elementary ed in May 2006.
Special Ed. is a critical shortage teaching area in NH. I have lately seen a lot of ads for spec, ed with experience with autism and MR.

My wife is interested in getting her k-8 certification. Does anyone know of a school that needs an elementary position filled that could provide her with this opportunity?
New Hampshire is an over-saturated market for elementary education teachers. The ones that are already certified are having a difficult time with finding a job.

If your wife really wants to teach I strongly suggest she take a look at teh critical shortage list on alt 4 and then make her plans from there.

I am contemplating switching districts to shorten the commute. I was told by a principal that experience in the classroom is not always a positive thing. They're going to look at candidates out of college first because I would be too expensive for their budget... I have 3 years!!!! This is the problem with education. In the business world I would be passed over for lack of experience. I love teaching but hate the politics!
I have 15 years of experience and I am searching also in NH. No wonder I am having problems even getting an interview. Your three years sounds like not too much experience.
What part of the state are you in (N-S-E-W)? Just curious.

For those people who want to become certified in New Hampshire and do not have the time or patience to sweat through a conventional program (I wish I knew about this three years ago!) Please consider American Board Certification for Teacher Excellence. Their website is [link removed].

Certification procedure is public information. You DO NOT have to pay for this information. There is no secret way to be certified. Don't be fooled by cons.
No, but the website does tell you. Now the price has gone up (since I didn't request email replies, I never knew that someone had responded to my post.) I plan to follow through with ABCTE certification and will let you know if the posted price is the final price. Since I graduated with my M.Ed. last May (2006,) I don't expect the cost to go beyond the upfront cost.

Hi! I just graduated this May with a degree in Art education and as I can see from the postings, all art teachers are having a hard time finding a job. I have a huge passion for teaching and need to do something to get my foot in the door. I search edjobsnh every week. I was wondering if anyone knew if private schools advertised on that site or if it was mostly just public schools. And if private schools do not advertise there then where do they advertise? ANY advice is helpful. Thank you!
What about getting a job as a special ed assistant and doing sped cert? Schools might appreciate your art background as well for special ed.

I am certified in Soc. Studies and am working as a Spec. Ed Parapra. I applied to the state for a "statement of Eligibility" for science and they gave it to me along with Special Ed. I'm absolutely thrilled. For some reason I thought it would be a lot harder to obtain. But I have it. I can be employed in sped (if they want me) and then go back to school (hopefully at employers expense) to work on the requirements for Sped.
