Hello, I just moved back to NH after 4 years in California. I am going to apply for the NH license under Alternative 3A for elementary education. The requirements are a bachelors degree and 3 full time months of teaching experience. I was not certified in California, however I was a substitute teacher for over a year, an after school program instructor for a year, and taught summer school to a 5th grade class. Does anyone know anything about the requirements for Alternative 3A and what they mean by '3 full time months of teaching experience'? DO you think I have enough experience for that or are they looking for something different? It is sort of vague.
Hi, On the board of Ed website they list contact info with every alternative. I think your best chance of getting the best answer is to contact them directly. When I had a question about alt IV I emailed the contact person and got a very timely reply.

Go to the board of ed website and look for alternative IV credentials. With a minor in Bio you could easily get a Statement of eligibility to teach bio. That would give the school permission to hire you while you work on finishing what you need to be fully certified. You would have up to three years to complete what you need and, if you were hired, you would be able to tap into the professional development that the school offers. That often includes some tuition reimbursement.
Biology is considered a "critical shortage" subject area and that is why you can get alternative IV cert. for it. But I do not know how that translates into actually getting a job. I cannot tell you what I have been through in an attempt to get a teaching job (including getting a SOE for science).
There are currently a few bio positions advertised. I am sending you a link to one. If I were you I would apply for it and apply to the state for the SOE. I got my paper work for it in very quickly and received it one week later.
Also, in my opinion, the combo of PE and Bio is a good one. Schools are always trying to get the most for their money. IF they could hire you for PE and health or Bio and a coaching position they will over someone like me who is not at all physically inclined.
I am a certified French teacher in Colorado and I am looking for a French teaching job in NH starting in August 2006. What would I have to do to get certified in NH? I am a native French and I just want to get closer to my family in law and to Europe. I will be shopping on line next Spring for job openings but I was wondering what I needed to do to get certified in NH since I am already certified in CO.
=(HELP) Need help from G1-6 classroom teachers = Topic: Classroom Teachers¡¦ (G1-6) Perspectives towards School-Based After-School Programs
Hello, dear G1-6 teacher!
I am now a graduate student who is working on the Master¡¦ s educational capstone research. My research topic is ¡§An Internet Survey of Classroom Teachers¡¦ (G1-6) Perspectives towards School-Based After-School Programs in the U.S. and Taiwan.¡¨ I planned to invite some G1-6 classroom teachers in the U.S. and Taiwan to help me to do an online survey. However, I am now encountering serious problems that need your help. It¡¦s now the holiday week and it seems like I am not having enough participants to do my survey before the survey deadline (12:00 PM, SAT, 26 Nov 05).
Please take a few minutes now to visit the following URL to help me and your district to evaluate the school-based after-school programs!:
[link removed]
(ps. If it is not linked directly from your web browser, please ¡§Copy and Paste¡¨ the above URL into your web browser.)
If possible, please also provide me some chatboards¡¦ URL that G1-6 classroom teachers in the U.S. often visit. I¡¦ ve already posted it on a couple of websites to ask for these teachers¡¦ help, but only very few of them helped me with the survey after they read the message.
What do you do when you know a teacher is not teaching? I did my student teaching with a teacher that does nothing basically. He sleeps during classtime and asks for me to tape shows to keeps his students occupied. I am currently looking for a job and it's as if the job is just staring at me in the face. I know I will have a hard time finding a job in the area I want to teach. If I say something it's me who will look bad. I currently work at the school but as an aide till something opens up. But who knows when that will be. It pains me to watch a teacher get away with this at the same time I want his job.
The teacher I was assigned to when I did my student teaching was horrible. I think the reason they assigned me to him was so that the kids would get some instruction that year. It was a long time ago and if I had to do it over again I would have told the college to either re-assign me or give me back my tuition $.
I also want to say that I just started a teaching job after being an aide for two years. The school where I worked as an aide would never have hired me as a teacher. Good aides, who are certified teachers, are hard to find and they were not going to let me rise in rank there. Do not hold your breath waiting for a job where you are. It might happen but I strongly suggest you apply everywhere else.
And I would not say anything about what a crummy teacher he is because, like you said, it might make you look bad and also they probably already know.
