What are the retirement benefits for NH teachers with 15 years or so experience that retire or leave the teaching field early? Let's say if you put in 15+ years and decide to resign are their 401K's or something similar in benefits EARNED that you would be entitled to and would be paid out upon leaving? Thank you, Alison

Established exchange still needs these states. Address labels will be provided, avoiding mistakes in addressing and therefore avoiding dissapointment. $2.00 requested for labels. There will possibly be a class website project in conjunction with this exchange to facilitate students sharing more information about their state. Let me know ASAP if you would like to join,
Karen, I am meeting with my 5th grade team at the beginning of next week. I can see if they are interested. What grade are your kids?

I am a guidance counselor in NH and have had an extremely difficult time finding a position. I have had my certification for five years. It took me a year to get my first position it was a temporary position. The next year I interviewed again and was told to get more experience - how do you do this if you can't get a job. I finally did get a job as a counselor for two years. This job recently became part-time so I had to begin the interview process once again - I though great at least now I have experience - wrong - this time around the interview process has been all about the "fit". I am getting very frustrated. Any ideas on how to portray the "right fit" during interviews? I am starting to feel like something is wrong with my personality - I know this is not true but how much rejection can a person go through before they start taking it personally?

Mock elections, women’s suffrage offered in Humanities Council programs Public and teachers invited to learn about voting history, contemporary issues
CONCORD – School teachers are invited to learn about the history of voting and contemporary issues confronting democracy in a series of workshops sponsored by the N.H. Humanities Council. The public is invited to attend free events on Sept. 21 and Oct. 12 which accompany the workshops. The series begins Thursday, Sept. 21, with “Vote! Democratic Simulations for the Classroom” at Saint Anselm College in Manchester. Teachers will learn to run a mock election and a Congressional simulation. More than 40,000 students in New Hampshire have been involved in the National Mock Election project, led by and schoolteacher Laura Kessler and Susan Adams of NH Public TV. The Congressional simulation, run by the Youth Leadership Initiative, allows students to write their own unique legislation and then debate and vote on proposals by other students nationwide. Teachers will receive lesson plans and study guides for both programs. Dean Spiliotes, Research Director of the N.H. Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, will give the keynote address for the Sept. 21 workshop. Spiliotes’speech, which is open to the public free of charge, begins at 9 a.m. at the N.H. Institute of Politics, 100 Saint Anselm Drive, Manchester. He will provide an overview of current research in voting behavior and political participation, including the impact of retail politics and other campaign strategies on voter choice; the case for cautious optimism in political participation, including the surge in turnout among young voters in the 2004 election; and controversial proposals for electoral reform, from electronic balloting to elimination of winner-take-all districts and the Electoral College. The series continues with “Vote! Women’s Suffrage” on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Legislative Office Building in Concord. This teacher workshop explores the social, political and economic complexities of the struggle that led to the 19th Amendment and women’s right to vote, and will be taught by Beth A. Salerno of Saint Anselm College and Michael D. Pierson of the University of Massachusetts. A special focus will be on Lucy Stone, a broadly influential leader in the women’s suffrage and Abolition movements. Judith Black, a nationally-renowned living history performer, will portray Stone and discuss her legacy. Black will also portray Lucy Stone in a public performance, “Meet Lucy Stone,” on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in historic Representatives Hall at the State House, Concord. Black has earned standing ovations at the Smithsonian Institution, the National Storytelling Festival, and many community performances. This event is open to the public free of charge. Both teacher workshops run 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The $35 tuition for each workshop includes lunch and materials. Space is limited, and early registration is suggested. Hi, I am applying to be a substitute teacher in Keene, NH and am wondering what the pay scale is? And is there such a need that I could be teaching every day?
My name is Karin Athanas and I am hoping to move to the New England area sometime next year. I am looking for a teaching position in science and have already received my Letter of Eligibility to teach Biology. I am also expecting to receive a Letter of Eligibility to teach Earth Science and Chemistry. If anyone knows of a position or can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for the help.
A bit early to know if we will openings for next school year since we just started school for this year. I would think that Science is a good area because it is so special so chances are good you will find a Science job easy enough.
Karin Athanas: Pos ise? Check out the SAUs in Southern New Hampshire, especially Manchester. We are in great need for qualified, competent instructors in all areas and this need is sorely felt in math and science. I am afraid that New Hampshire is better known for its geographic beauty and not for its fine level of public education. Good luck!
Ya sou, Yanni Milos
