Hi, I am currently taking courses online to get my Associates Degree in ECE. I was just wondering if that is the right step in becoming a preschool or kindergarten teacher? Thank you!!!
If anyone knows of a kindergarten through second grade position available in New Hampshire please let me know! I am an older NEW teacher (27 y.o.a. with family) with a lot of pre-school experience and a new B.A. in ECE. I also have tons of English credits, ready to create a literacy-rich environment for whoever hires me! Thanks.
I'm debating on whether or not it's time for a career change and I'd love very much to teach. Right now, I'm a pastry chef. I would love to teach cooking in highschool, or maybe a vocational school. I have my associate's in culinary arts. What do I need to do to become a teacher? Where do I receive a certificate? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Hello, In SAU #29 - Keene School District, our union voted to work to rule because our school budget and teachers contract were voted down( It is more involved than this actually) My question to those of you who have gone WTR is: how did the WTR affect athletics? Did your teachers who coach stop coaching? Our teachers contract is seperate from coaching contracts. Anyone who could give me feed back on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
I feel the need to speak to the issue of work to rule and the "reasons" for it. I used to teach at Keene High and there is NOT a more dedicated group of teachers who go above and beyond . The Keene school board and the community has historically been non-suportive of basic cost of living increases for the teachers. According to the state DOE records and the teacher pay in Keene is the lowest in the state for a community with a population of 25,000 or more. In addition, work to rule is a LAST option after negotiations break down. It is not the first option. If you feel that teachers are prostituting thier values, you need the reality check. Teachers ARE PROFESSIONALS. The average American teacher has 7 years of education, a MASTERS degree, and is over 50,000 in debt because of the education. The average Business major has 5 years of education, NO masters, and is 35,000 in debt (look it up on the National DOE website). Colleges are making education degrees a MINIMUM of a 5 year program for a bachelors. We are professionals and deserve to be treated as such.
With the growing demands placed on teachers, they deserve REASONABLE compensation, not MILLIONS. Where did any teacher EVER expect to make millions? Never. I could go on for volumes on this too. My father was a teacher, my brother is a teacher, and I am a teacher. We are not expecting to be millionares, but we do have bills, families, and expenses like everybody else.
Work to rule is the teachers ability to SHOUT above the noise that is created by ignorance.

But you say WTR is when negotiations break down- but that was not the case in Keene- the Board of Ed and the Union had successful negotiations- it was the community that rejected the contract.
WTR is not effective in that kind of scenario- it is like holding the community hostage- trying to drum up sympathy, when basically the town said it could not afford it.
I am planning to move to New Hampshire this summer and will start looking for a job soon. I haven’t decided where yet, but am looking at the southern and southeast regions – specifically the areas around Nashua, Keene, Manchester, Salem, Rochester, and Durham. I am open to other places as well if anyone has some suggestions on where to relocate. I am an elementary school teacher with 9 years of experience and a Masters degree in Teaching ESL and wish to find a classroom teaching position. What is the job market like for teachers in NH? What is the salary like? Will I be able to support my wife and two kids and still live in a decent house on a teacher’s salary? Is it difficult for an out-of-state person to get a job? I have a VA teaching license and am currently applying for a NH license. Any information, advice and suggestions you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the process of making a major career change and am thinking of becoming an elementary educator. I have all the information I need from the NH Dep of Edu on how to get my Statement of Eligibility.
I do not have any teaching experience. I am however passionate about teaching and I love working with children.
Is there anyway for me to get some experience while I'm going through the certification process?
I'm in major need of a mentor are there such resources available?
