It's been 8 years since I graduated College. At the time I was going for PE and took every and all classes required. Unfortunatly for me I did not have the opportunity to student teach because I had a full time job. This full time job and the FACTS OF LIFE did not allow me to quit my job (had bills) and finish the program.......hence I am 8 years and one 3 month student teaching class from a degree. It is so fustrating knowing that given the opportunity I could be a great teacher. I am currently NH alt 5 PE, alt 4 general science, general special education, biology, physical science.
Wishing I was like every other student that mom and dad supported.
Poor you. Stop it, you are an adult. Thousands of kids work their way through college without parental support, myself included. Yes, it meant hardship, no car, few leisure activities, etc, but you have to be willing to sacrifice and work for what you want. How did you manage to pay for college right up until student teaching? Sounds like you are good at making excuses, but little else.
Don't make statements like, "I could be a great teacher" when you have to be responsible for 30 kids and you can't even be responsible enough to finish a semester of student teaching. You haven't bothered to finish 3 months of student teaching in 8 years, face it, you aren't going to.
P.S. It's called a night shift. During my student teaching I taught school for 9 hours, then rushed to my job and loaded trucks from 5-midnight for minimum wage. You are talking to the wrong person.

I'm trying to do my own homework on this subject. I am hoping to hear from the staff & faculty to better understand all sides before the upcoming meeting in Sullivan. To the best of my understanding, the selectmen and a group of "taxpayers" are angry that staff, teachers and administrators are being compensated (with tax dollars) without those decisions (and dollar amounts) being directly voted on and approved by "the taxpayers". It seems to me that instead of attacking the retirement and health benefits etc. that are earned by the faculty & staff, we should all be demanding these same benefits for all. It also seems to me that to pursue a career in education, a person must first invest huge amounts of time and money to prepare and then they must continue to commit to furthering their education in order to maintain and advance their career. For the amount of investment required, the total compensation package seems terribly underwhelming.
Please let me know your own take on this, I don't want to presumptuously walk into that meeting with less than the facts. Thank you so much for your help
I am looking for a teacher of mine from 37 years ago. Her name was Diane Allison, she taught at Hartford Memorial Middle school in White River Jct, VT. This was 1971.
Hello, everyone! I just stumbled upon this site. I'm not used to writing in cyberspace, but I'm taking an online course (PBS Teacherline)that requires online communicating, so I'm getting better at it:). I am in the process of looking for a teaching position in the Manchester, Bedford, Goffstown etc areas. I hold a Masters degree, have taught 3rd grade (mostly), Title 1 and worked quite a bit with k-3rd grades. I have been a stay-home mom for the past 2 years and am excited to get back to the classroom full time. Does anyone have any suggestions? This looks like a great site and I would appreciate feedback. Thanks!
Hello. Currently I am a speech-langauge pathologist at a Pre-K program in the Syracuse, NY area. I LOVE my job, but my roots are in NH. I have a master's degree, and hold a NY initial teaching certification for speech. I am looking to continue my work with the preschool-fifth grade students. This field provides many opportunities to work in many capacities (e.g. hospitals, home-care, early intervention), Although I love my field, my passion is to work with children within the school setting. If anyone has any direction to give me to find some openings, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you and I hope to be back in my home state soon!!
There might be an opening in my building this fall. We have a semi retired speech/language person now who stayed 1/2 time for this year and I am not sure the status yet for next year.
email me if interested

I graduated with a bachelor degree in Business Administration. I have been working for the past 3 years at an insurance company as the Marketing Coordinator. I am not sure how to get started as a teacher and am hoping someone can give me some advice. I am willing to do whatever it takes, but would like to get started as soon as possible. Do I have to go back to school to get a degree in education or are there other options? Please help me!

I had my bachelors in Anthropology and wanted to become a teacher so I went back to school and got my masters in teaching so I could teach. If you're in NH, they do have options. If you call the NH Dept of Ed, they will give you all the info you need to get started. It may not be as daunting as I make it sound. Good luck! :)

Bonnie, I am also a business major and I am currently in the process of becoming a NH teacher. You do not need to get your masters in order to teach. Since you took 30+ credits in business you can be a business ed teacher immediately. You will need to apply as a NH teacher and you will have to take the Praxis 1 exam. That exam you can take once a month - it is an exam to measure your general knowledge.
I am still researching on the entire process but hope this helps - go to google and type "New Hampshire educators" and it will pop up with a website that should be useful (and confusing) for you.
Good luck tif

I have a bachelor's in biology and was one class away from a minor in chemistry. When I first graduated college (2003) I was trying to get into animal training/husbandry. Well, that hasn't really worked out so well and after doing internships and trying to work my way up, the closest I've gotten is changing rat cages in a lab. I decided to look into teaching, since that was one of the options I was weighing before choosing a major in biology. I was planning on getting certified in biology under alternate 5 and maybe chemistry under alternate 4. I was planning on taking the Praxis I hopefully by the end of the summer after I brush up on math, and then go on to take the biology subject test. Do I need to apply for the statement of eligibility before or after the praxis tests? This is where I get confused...the order I'm supposed to do everything in. I've emailed the board of education but they weren't very helpful in answering my question. If anyone has tips or suggestions on the best way to get started, I'd love your input! Thanks :)
