I found a permanent job and put in ...See MoreI was a long term sub last school year. At the end of that year I was offered a 2nd long term sub for this coming school year. Considering the economy and that I wasn't guaranteed full time employment elsewhere, I signed the contract, but informed them I would continute to look for permanent employment.
I found a permanent job and put in my notice and now I'm being held to a 60 day resignation notice, which I was surprised to hear about because the districts contract indicates that this only applies to permanent/tenured employees. Is this a standard in New Jersey, to hold temporary employees to the same resignation requirement as permanent employees?
The district posted the position the day I resigned, 730, and they have yet to find a replacement. I am concerned that they won't find anyone and that I will have to start the school year at my old school. Is there anyway to get out of this?

I will be teaching at a private school this coming school year. Since I am an alternate route candidate, do I have to contact the state to register myself for those classes or do does the school do that?
I want to become a biology and chemistry teacher in NJ. I plan to obtain my CEAS after graduating from master's program in teaching from a NY college in May 2014. What are my chances? Approximately...will I be competing against 100 candidates or like 20...? I hope to teach in middlesex county (Edison/Piscataway area).
miramiraYou'll be competing against 5 candidates at most. Some low paying districts have zero applicants for chemistry and physics jobs - more for biology though
I never signed a contract for this year, altho I was told verbally that I was re-hired. I gave notice on the first day and was told that I am being held for 60 days or they will pull my license. I haven't signed a contract for this school year, tho, so is this legal? I thought verbal contracts were unenforceable.
Can a district hire a teacher without board approval? From what I understand the board must approve all new hires and if a teacher is moving from one position to another.
My district is hiring without approval, and putting subs in subject areas that they are not certified to teach (a relative ofcourse).
ron/njThese political school systems get away with alot of nonsense. The average Joe can't go up against them. Maybe speaking to the union will shed some light. Good luck but don't expect anything positive to come of this. ron

I am a 35 yr. old mother of three. I live in Pa and am trying to find an elementary teacher I had when I lived in Nj as a little girl. She was wonderful and stayed in my memories all these years. I don't know where to start. I would appreciate any feed back. She taught at Yardville Elementary and her name was Mrs. Crittenden. Thanks so much!
