Hello. I work in a private school in nj. I recently found out that due to our low enrollment I will be laid off in May. We are 10 month employees but receive our payments in 26 installments. I was told I would not be receiving ANY of my summer pay even though I would have worked 8 out of 10 months. Is this legal??

huh. If you aren't working the full 10 months, then you should not get summer pay. Why should you get the installments that you did not earn? You should get paid for the 8 that you did work. I don't know how they figured out 26 installments, since most schools get paid 2 times per month...12 months should equal 24 installments. So I'm thinking... you sh...See More

huh. I would check your contract. There could be something in there that states if you don't work the full school year, which is 10 months, then you are not able to get any of the summer pay. If it doesn't state it anywhere, I would ask someone you work with. I'm actually surprised that they would let you go a month before the school year ended... where...See More
