Hi all, so here is my situation. My boyfriend is a resident of Somerset New Jersey. I live and teach in Brooklyn NY. I want to move to New Jersey because he is there. I was wondering what are my odds if any to obtain a job in New Jersey in the next year or so in a decent school in a decent district. Some facts about me: 29 years old, have taught for 5 years, I have tenure, I teach high school science at a public school. I know it is hard to get a job in New Jersey with all the financial cuts that have been made. However, does it help that I am a science teacher at the high school level, or is the situation so bad that even I have no advantage whatsoever over say a kindergarten teacher? I would like to hear some suggestions, opinions, facts etc. Would it be a rational thing to do? I am comfortable at my current school, I am well liked, I get along with the bureaucrats. Please help, I want to be close to my boyfriend, but career is important too.
