Is six periods of teaching (active teaching--not study hall type things) the norm in Jersey public schools? Do any of you get extra pay for teaching six periods? Thanks for any info on this subject.
ron/nj In the middle school, a teacher was given reduced duties for teaching 6 classes, like no homeroom. The high school was block, so one semester was 3 teaching blocks, and the other was 2 teaching blocks. I've never heard of extra pay for teaching 6 classes.

miramira I teach 6 classes, but only 3 subjects. That's really the key, how many classes you must prepare for. Last year I had 6 classes to prepare for. That was waaaay too much. You don't have time for good lesson plans.

Jammin' Mammy I teach six periods total on rotating block schedule, resulting in one prep some days, two preps others. Nope, no extra pay for the sixth period. But the hardest part, imho, is when you are assigned four different courses.

Best one can hope for is to suck up to the right people and get a duty period instead of a sixth class. Me? I'll take...See More
