I don't feel that I have much autonomy in New Mexico. I have taught for 25 years yet I am forced to do PDSA, ACE, CBMs and a million other acronyms. What happened in this state to make the PED believe we are unable to teach in the ways we feel comfortable and have proven ourselves competent? I may move back to my old state (next door) if I cannot find a district that believes I can do the job I have been hired for! It is such a shame because there is so much to be done here and it is such a beautiful place. Is there a district in this state that allows teachers to teach without spending 20% of our time on these required hoops to jump through?
I worked in APS and felt like I had a lot of autonomy, but it was a school that got decent "test scores." If you're at one that isn't "passing the tests" they give you all sorts of nonsense to do.
My class will be reading the story the Gingerbread Man and doing a project with it. I am asking if anyone would mind assisting with this... if you would like to please email me at [email removed].
Project letter: My name is the Gingerbread Man, my friend in CLass 2H was reading a story about me and i jumped out of the storybook to visit you. My friend at school is wondering where I have run to. Please help them by sending them a picture postcard showing them the area where you live. This postcard will be posted on a large map of the world outside of my classroom. This will help the children by showing them how different parts of the world look. I know my friends will enjoy hearing from you and learning where I have run! Thank you for your help! Got to go! The Gingerbread Man

I am likely to secure teaching position at Fort Stanton and would like to know if their salary is good. What about the cost of living. Would I feel secured of staying there?

When we New Mexico public school teachers lost our tenure rights in the 1980s, wasn't one of the few things we gained from that "deal" a guarantee that we could not be forced into doing extra duty, such as having to work at a basketball game? Do any of you seasoned NM teachers remember that? Thanks!
Found a fantastic new chapter-book series for ages 7-9 that the kids in my class are thrilled about. It's called the Incredible Journey Books and it has fast-paced worldly adventures filled with geography facts. The plots are interesting and the series has done the trick to get my third-grade class interested in exploring the world map. The books have a great site that has an Africa unit along with puzzles to go with each book. Go to [link removed].
