I'm wanting to relocate to NM from PA. Would like a
family-oriented, possibly college-type or artsy town, or
at least close to U of NM if possible. I am a 3-yr
teacher of MS English, certification 7 through 12. Will
have 24 post-grad credits as of June. So what do I have
to do to get a job in NM? ie, do I need a NM
certificate? pass NM praxis, first? Should I, here, get
some other certification that might make me more
marketable there, ie, ESL? And, where's a good sd to
start interviewing in, and what should i avoid, since i
have a teenaged daughter i'll be taking with me?

You should apply now for your NM license. THere are state
teacher tests but they will give you 1 year to take them.
THe ESL endorsement will help you get interviews, but you
can get it in evening courses at UNM, many of the UNM branch
campuses, the College of Santa Fe, and other places.

NM is a wonderful growing community. I would recommend to
look into Rio Rancho Public schools as well. Rio Rancho is a
wonderful suburb of Albuquerque and has great schools with
awesome support from the administration. My wife was teacher
in both Albuquerque Public Schools and R.R. Take a look at

Scratch Gallup. They have a UNM branch and some artsy scenes,
but every school failed to make AYP and the administration is
top-down. We also lead NM and USA in STD's. Not good for
teachers nor teenagers.

Why not try Rio Rancho, NM. It is growing fast but you can
still find some affordable housing. It is a subdivision
outside of Albuquerque and in need of Teachers. Taos NM is an
artsy town but I don't know about having a UNM branch.

Taos has a UNM branch, but I'm not sure you can complete too
many degrees there.
