Why? Seems to me that the $2 million could be much better used supporting the teachers already hired, hiring people who come out of college certified, going back to reduced class sizes, etc. etc. etc.
Sandoval also supports "school choice." Does that include choice ($$$) going to religious schools?

This is the PART I find even more interesting; that is NEW news. If you listened carefully, we have been told that the CCSD Growth Model and 5 Star System used to opt out of NCLB do NOT allign with the State of Nevada's ranking sytem. The State of Nevada will not be ranking schools weighted on one year's growth, therefore teacher's would NOT be rated on a student's growth. The State of Nevada has chosen a system like NCLB which rates based on benchmarking scores at specific ages. This tells me; they look to evaluate teachers on the same old pass fail test menatality.
It also says once again that CCSD spent millions developing and rolling out yet another program to be scrubbed in 2 years or less. Yet "open books" says no waste? How about the millions on the 5 Star System now to be scrubbed and the Growth Model about to be scrubbed? What did all those training meetings, planning meetings, computer models and printed materials alone cost for yet another program to be scrubbed?

The letter to the editor discusses the ridiculous claim by our new state Super of Educ. that only 10% of Nevada's teachers are "good teachers." This claim was made with ZERO evidence and should be refuted.

James Guthrie, Nevada superintendent of public schools, said he will meet with Bill Gates in April. Guthrie, earning a reputation for speaking his mind on the problems with education, will lobby the billionaire and founder and chairman of Microsoft for a revolving fund to pay more to effective teachers. Guthrie said he wants teachers to be enticed to teach in Nevada. He said he wants tomorrow’s brightest college graduates to consider teaching in Nevada as a choice right up with getting an MBA, a law degree or working for Goldman Sachs. Guthrie said he wants effective teachers to make as much as principals.
_____
And of course since Nevada has no real unions, Guthrie is allowed to get away with murder.

Shame on CCSD and Dwight Jones.

re-hiring the experienced, certified, qualified teachers who were RIFed in the past 5 years. Crazy!!
Sandoval also wants to let students have vouchers to go to private schools.
Guthrie stated that he thought only about 200 of NV teachers were excellent--where he got that is anybody's guess, but where he stands politically is quite obvious.

I'd say it's because they will be spreading out your pay over the summer months.

Yes, because you will be working a full year of 184 days.

I HOPE not. It was bad enough having that "accountant" as our Curriculum and Instruction leader. No one wants him as the Superintendent. Most people at my school are hoping that its Pat Skorkowsky. Someone with years and years of experience with CCSD.
Has anyone ever been late for a staff meeting or "specials" and received an admonition from the principal by letter.
Has anyone ever had a post conference observation with the principal with both the principal and assistant principal even though the principal is under your supervision?
I worked for a principal that would write teachers up for being late to meetings or specials. She always warned them several times first but she would write them up if they continued to be late.
