I hope this is not the Roy Martin on Stewart? A zoo. Take a look at the apartments around the school. Keep looking. You cannot do any worse than this school.
Call your state reps, senators and enyone else y...See MoreStill wants to spend TWO MILLION Nevada taxpayer dollars subsidizing Teach for America (TFA), particularly in Clark County, when there are already RifFed, certified, qualified teachers wanting their jobs back.
TFA people get the SAME salary as real, NV certified, qualified teachers.

That is why the person featured in the Review-Urinal article is a Kindergarten teacher.

TFA's got paid "public information" folk tooting their horn on the Internet 24/7. Mack knows damned good and well that TFA isn't needed in Nevada or anywhere else, but the truth just doesn't offer as big a paycheck.
I was assigned to teach science at Liberty HS. I was RIF't last year than went on maternity leave. The school looks not too bad on accountability report. Any info about the school is really appreciated. Thank you Mara
One of the teachers from my school is going there. Her father in a Principal, so it must not be too bad a place to work. She got hooked up, just like she got hooked up with her job here.
I have to choose between Monaco MS, Findley MS. Harney MS, Mack MS, Del Sol and HS Cimarron Memorial HS. I am a math a science certified 7-12. Any advice will be appreciated.

Sam I teach at Harney M.S. and love it. Great kids, staff, teachers and admin. Been there for 10 years and would not consider teaching anywhere else. I teach 6th grade life science. Stay away from Mack, Monaco, and Del Sol!!!!!!!!
Thank you. I noticed that Mack is not far from Harney, the same population. I visited Monaco, Findley, and Del Sol and you are so right. They hired a math teacher for Harney.Thank you.
OK. What kind of science. Rocket Science? Monkey breeding? I am sure you could pass a Physics and Chemistry teacher test. Cough, cough. > > I taught SPED too. It was SPED K-5th.
Is that when you differentiated for 25 five-year olds? There are no SPED k-5 teachers. Most kids are not put on IEP's until they are in 3rd grade. Who are you kidding?

How do you know you are making more money than me. If so, you need to get a life and stop trolling on Nevada teacher site. TFA scab.
On 6/03/13, The only Science You know is smoking ...See MoreYou coulda fooled me on the sped K-5. I worked with students in grades 1-3 in resource, and these students had IEPs, and there are also life skills courses which start out in the elementary grades as well as classes with students with behavior issues.
I think you are busted here.

That said, I am of the opinion that you always want to dress to impress. There are Principals who will look down on you if you don't dress professionally.
I personally believe that a full suit wouldn't hurt. I'm going to guess you'll have a rental car with AC if you're coming in from Florida, and the building will have AC as well.
If you absolutely can't afford it, then just go with a dress shirt, tie, and slacks, but honestly, you want to give yourself every advantage.

Got another email today to my interact account from NRPI Victor Joecks telling us to trust CCSD and their Principals and quit the union. Joecks' wife is CCSD Propaganda Minister Amanda Fulkerson, with her 6-figure salary. She needs to do. This is not a violation of our emails? I don't want this jerk emailing me.
When I read the email from the anti-union group NPRI, I had to ask myself why they care or what is their agenda in trying to get teachers to drop their membership in CCEA. Could it be that the woman in charge of Human Recourses for CCSD has a relationship with one of the leaders of this group? What is their stake in this? They claim that they want you to drop so you can keep the dues you pay and spend them on something that benefits you. REALLY?? I see nowhere in the email where they tell you what will happen to you if CCEA goes away.
It has been very clear over that last few years that CCSD has been trying to take away protections that teachers have won. Here is what CCSD WILL do if they get the chance:
1. Stop all increases for education 2. Change your health insurance to a for-profit company 3. Make your ability to keep your job based on the proficiency scores of the students in your school 4. Change the observation process so you have no say in the things that are said about you 5. Make it so they can fire you for any reason they choose 6. Move you to any school they choose even if you do not want to move schools.
Let me address some of the concerns I have heard from members and non-members:
CCEA really does not do much for me because I don't have any problems at my school.
I have been driving since I was 16 years old and have never caused an accident. Yet every year I pay my insurance premiums. I know that if I do cause an accident I want to protect all of the things I have worked very hard for. I have been in an accident that was not my fault and my insurance company helped me in collecting funds to pay to fix my car. I was very glad that I had them on my side.
I see CCEA as an insurance company that is here to protect the investment I have made in my education and in the years I have invested in my job. I also am glad that they go to bat for me when it comes time to negotiate with CCSD. I have been teaching for 18 years and the only minor setback was this last year's decision by the arbitrator. And I feel that CCEA helped teachers keep as much of their salary as possible.
CCEA pays its employees way too much money using my dues.
First let me address some of the "FACTS" they put forward in their email. They claim that CCEA paid a person over $600,000 in salary using our dues. This is not true...in fact if you notice they use an RJ article to make the claim so they do not have to prove the claim. Over $400,000 of this amount was paid by outside organizations setting up the CTE program. In fact CCEA has taken steps to reduce staff salary and benefits in the last 2 years. If you have concerns about what the employees of CCEA are getting paid you can get the salaries on their site because it is "public information".
CCEA lost the last negotiation and I lost my step and education increases!
If you look at this decision you can really say that CCEA actually won half the battle. CCSD wanted to deny teachers their step and education increases at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year and went to arbitration. The arbitrator did say that CCSD should use the teacher raises to hire more teachers and said that CCSD could stop the raises. If CCEA had not stepped in you would have never gotten the raises for the 6 months you received them. And in winning the negotiation for the 2011-2012 school year CCEA insured that you got the step and education increases that had been frozen for the previous 2 years. In fact if CCEA had not stepped in we would have had to pay back almost an entire year of raises. I feel that my dues were well spent in this instance.
The arbitrator told the District that they had to use the raises they were taking from the teaches to hire more teachers to reduce class sizes. It is not a coincidence that just a few short weeks after this decision our Superintendent quit his job. It is clear to me that he and CCSD were not going to be able to use the money from the raises in the way the arbitrator had indicated. The Superintendent and CCSD knew that they had hired all of the teachers they could and money was never a factor. They had lied to the arbitrator and had painted themselves into a corner that they knew they could not get out of.
In our upcoming negotions, CCEA will demand that the increases that were taken from you will be reinstated.
Why should I pay dues when I get all of the negotiated increases and benefits anyway!!
We should all be in the same boat together! There is something to be said about being part of something that is bigger than just yourself. If we do not stay together things will not get better...When CCSD negotiates a contract with us and they see that 35% of teachers are not CCEA members, it emboldens the District to try to exact greater concessions from teachers. ALL of us are affected as a result.
