This is my third year of teaching at CCSD. I was told by a teacher at my school that we will not receive the step on the payroll schedule for the next school year. I called the district and of course they refused to give me a straight answer.

Catholic Archdiocese in San Diego County? Do the military bases, San Diego Naval Station, Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, or Camp Pendleton use the local schools, or do they have schools on base run by DOD?

they were given two options: 1. this changed calendar; 2. this changed calendar.
There should have been a third option: 3. keep the current calendar

The daily drumbeat goes on. No wonder so many people in this state hate teachers. You can blame these jealous clowns at the Review-Urinal. You do not see any of them going to school to become teachers. They do not have the brains or the stomach to do so. Jealous of teachers. Jealous of the lowest paid of all licensed professions. Jealous of a profession in which half quit in the first 5 years. What a bunch of losers or what?
I'm thinking about moving from Detroit to NV and wanted to know is it possible to get hired in CCSD as a re-locater. I know may places may prefer people who already live there. I teach elementary but also have my special ed. endorsement. I'm look for regular elementary positions.

Really?!? Sorry, we were taking about special ed on this thread. Honestly, I'm a little surprised regular ed elementary teachers got hired so quickly and over the phone. I didn't think the "shortage" was back in that field. Special ed, bilingual, and STEM, but elem ed....Hmmmm. Cool!

> What are the opportunities with an ELL endorsement?
My school has a high ELL population. We used to have a full- time teacher that handled all the testing, paperwork, and worked with small groups of students.
Several years ago the district eliminated those positions and now we have classified employees that come a couple of times a year to do testing and paperwork.
I think most principals want their teachers to have the endorsement so that they have strategies for teaching ELL students. I would bet that most of the teachers I've worked with in the past 10 years are ELL endorsed.
Does anyone know how long after submitting an application for licensure it takes for them to start reviewing it? I have a license in PA and my application should have arrived In Nevada July 17th and I included my conditional offer of employment. I'm driving cross country to move to Nevada this Sat and nervous about possibly being left high and dry.
Backlogged they are...there are a lot of teachers from other states trying to take jobs here thinking it will be better than where they are. Make sure you are prepared to take a second job as many have to do this. Many teachers come from back east thinking it will be great to live in Las Vegas, then get stuck with a long commute to their school because they get moved 1/2 way through the year as teachers with more seniority take their job to be closer to where they live. I welcome all the out of state teachers, but you better be sure your states license can be picked up here. Nevada does not fit with very many states and there will be many classes to take and more Praxis tests to take to teach here. You will also get stuck in a school you may not want for 2 years or more and be moved a couple of times, which is out of your control. I was in 3 schools in 2 years because I kept getting moved until I went and got a Science degree so now I can stick where I want. Math, Science and Spec Ed degree holders can pretty much write their own ticket here(school wise I mean)..There was a lot of openings this year and you may not get in til after the year starts, then get moved in the middle of the year, but it is a good job once in and established. Good luck and remember to do your homework and talk to some teachers if you can
