Georgia is a right to work state, unions don't exist, we're in the midst of the GA version of Common Core & the 2nd year of the TKES eval system. Even with all the b.s., I still love teaching middle school kids.
Are there are good stories coming out of Clark County? I've read the complaints on the board, but would appreciate any positive aspects of the district if anyone has any to share.

I have to move to Vegas due to my spouse's job transfer, so please don't hit me with the "CCSD is terrible" stuff I've read on this board. I've got to move to Vegas and it's the only school district in town.
I just was granted a Nevada license approved for K-12 Sped generalist. I know they have a lot of openings in sped now, but I won't be in the area until the summer and I have a contract in another state for this year. I want to get a job secured as soon as possible though and get out in front of everything.
I would like to have a job secured before I move, so I'm not dealing with the hectic situation of moving cross- country, looking for housing, unpacking, AND interviewing for jobs.
I would start applying now if I were you. As long As they're accepting applications. It took me 3 months. There is a vacancy list on their website that shows the schools with vacancies. I applied in Nov 2012 and had my District interview in January and after that was over They put it in your file and principals can look at It. I checked the openings and emailed principals With my résumé and that's how I landed my job. I was hired mid year and started in February. Good luck!
CCSD is terrible! They have administrators who evaluate me and make me do things like teach students. I'm a teacher! I shouldn't be teaching students! Outrageous!
There are administrators and others who have jobs I want, but I don't want to work to get them. I also never applied for any of the jobs that I do want and might be able to get. So, that means that the people that have those jobs are bad and lazy... and the system is rigged because administration should give me one of those jobs. Waaaaaah.
I spend every, single day at school letting everyone know how miserable I am. Anyone not as miserable as me is a CCSD shill, sell-out, and brown-noser. Anyone who gets a job as an administrator gets the job because of connections and nepotism. I should be an administrator..., but I don't have a degree in administration, but that doesn't matter! The system is rigged.
The Union is terrible! They won't go on a wildcat strike to secure a free paycheck for me that doesn't involve working with these terrible kids. They want to take money out of my paycheck. They should work for me for free!
I don't make enough money! I have been teaching two WHOLE years, have a BA, and I am not making 100K per year. Outrageous! In California, I would be making so much more money (but I'd have 10% state income tax, and I can't get a job in California, but... lets not let facts get in the way of my rant)
Also, it is hot in Las Vegas. This is ridiculous! I'm from Utah (Alaska, Michigan, New York, etc...) and its not hot there! It should be like where I'm from. Who ever heard about it being hot in Vegas!
Anyone thinking about moving to Las Vegas and teaching for CCSD is dumb and shouldn't do it. Anyone who already works for CCSD is a loser and should quit. I don't quit because I need the money and for some reason, despite my winning, positive attitude, I can't get a job anywhere else.
Pretty much sums up the attitude of people on here...

Watch the administrators claw their way to middle management as they stomp on whomever gets in their way! See the schoolboard clowns smile and pretend they give a damn about the teachers and the kids! Watch the Teacher's Union take dues money and waste it as the teachers are being beaten to a psychological pulp by their principals. Breathe in the mold in the classrooms, smell the stinky restrooms, and watch the rats poop in the teachers lounge pile up! See the front office sweat when OSHA shows up! Take an art class from the students and learn how to draw male anatomy. Learn how to not flush a toilet, which can be useful when you visit a foreign country. Learn how to qualify for a free lunch on your newest cellphone app, and get free wipes to clean your $200.00 shoes while you wait for approval. Yes, you can do all things things if you hired in Las Vegas! But only for one year if your principal finds out you know more than he or she does, which is 99&37; of the time. Then you get to go home forever, because the show is over folks, you didn't pass probation, you are unappreciated, overworked, underpaid and suffering from nasal allergies that have snuck under the border. Now, go watch the movie "Leaving Las Vegas" and be glad you did!!,,

Average school that I can tell. Far from the worst in Las Vegas. About half Hispanic, a third white, the rest a mix of others. Not high achieving but not terrible.
"I hear many people talk about tolerance and how we must learn to be tolerant toward those who are different from us. When we tolerate something, we put up with it temporarily until it is gone. We tolerate a toothache, back pain, and loud music coming from a neighbor’s house. Why would we ever put what we do with children in the same category? Instead, we should celebrate the differences of our children."
