Saw this little blurb in the RGJ:

James Guthrie, Nevada superintendent of public schools, said he will meet with Bill Gates in April. Guthrie, earning a reputation for speaking his mind on the problems with education, will lobby the billionaire and founder and chairman of Microsoft for a revolving fund to pay more to effective teachers. Guthrie said he wants teachers to be enticed to teach in Nevada. He said he wants tomorrow’s brightest college graduates to consider teaching in Nevada as a choice right up with getting an MBA, a law degree or working for Goldman Sachs. Guthrie said he wants effective teachers to make as much as principals.
