Anyone know of a co-hort for a 4-5 Generalist Endorsement in the Columbus area? I earned my master's degree with a co- hort and really enjoyed the experience.
I am a teacher and a school counselor. I was offered a position mid year and was offered $32,000 a year. I have my master degree, 12 years of experience, and 20 hours beyond my masters. The class sizes were small and I liked the administation, but I couldn't justify working for that low of a salary. I hope this was helpful.
This is a group of charter schools that are actually going well!!! None of their schools are in emergency or watch!!! Most of their schools are K-8, and most are on the west side of town.
if you are lucky enough to get an offer.....TAKE IT!!!!!

you need to talk to your EMIS coordinator and see what they recoomend. If you have a national charter or sponsor then they need to be involved in whats going on. bottom line- its your license and certifications! I wouldn't let anything jepordize that!
Does anyone know anything about Ohio Virtual Academy? Has anyone worked for them? How's the pay and benefits? Is it possible to do this and work at a regular public school at the same time?
I am moving to the Mason, Ohio area relatively soon. I have information from the Ohio Department of Education and are working diligently to get my paperwork completed. I was an elementary teacher here in Arizona for nearly 10 years. I am also getting ready to file for legal separation from my husband. Is there anything I should do now so that the transition will be easier? I am seriously thinking of doing my fingerprint clearance once I am in Mason. Does that sound okay or should I try to do it in Arizona prior to leaving the state? What is the teaching situation like in Mason? I currently have a Standard Elementary Education, two degrees (B.S. Elementary/Special Education) and a Master's degree. I also possess a Structured English Immersion as well as a Reading Specialist Endorsement. Can anyone guess as to if I will need to take any tests or pick up any courses? Please forgive me for not researching this enough online, I am also trying to help my parents get things ready for the move.
Any assistance would certainly be most appreciated.

as for fingerprinting, i cant say what would be best. however, as far ...See Morewelcome to the area! finding a job here is not easy (im in loveland, right next to mason) and i am in my second year out of work due to teacher cuts and budget issues in the state. HOWEVER, take heart...you have great certifications and hoepfully that will work for you.
as for fingerprinting, i cant say what would be best. however, as far as job prospects go, complete an application on ohioteachingjobs.org, which is the system many districts in the cinci area use.
best of luck on your "new" life here. im sure things will work out for you professionally.
take care!

I would check to see if you have "an at will contract" that means that you or the school can decide at any time for any reason to terminate the contract. make sure all the ducks are lined up before you do the move- check that all of the strs PAYMENTS ARE UP TO DATE, AND THAT ANY insurance is paid up to date so if you need to go on cobra before your other insureance kicks in- you have that option. good luck
I am going to be a newbie to Mason, Ohio in a few weeks. I tried today to email the department of education, but was told to call and speak to someone. However, I am really hoping that you can help me.
I currently posess an Arizona teaching certificate in Elementary Education with endorsements in Structured English Immersion and Reading Specialist.
I know I will have to take the Praxis, but which one? Do I have also take it in the areas I have endorsements in as well? Also, are there any classes that I will have to take? In Arizona, some new teachers have to take the Arizona Constitution and U.S. Constitution.
Any help you can give me would be most appreciated. I will keep checking the boards until Friday. My internet is being turned off then.
Thanks for all of your help. By the way, I have sent emails to Mason and Lebannon asking about volunteering/employment opportunities. In your opinion, was this a good move or a bad one?
The license doesn't cover 4-5 because Ohio's licensure is banded differently. Thye go PK-3, 4-9, and 7-12. So, an out of state license covering k-5 only fits in the first band. This was changed about 8 years ago. Although, they are now looking at changing it again. Also, you can add on an endorsement to be able to teach 4-6 grades, you have to take some classes and a praxis test.....all about the money.

Be prepared to market yourself like crazy. I had to get really creative in making my name and face recognized. I wish you the best of luck.
