I have a possible job in South Central Ohio, the portsmouth area. I don't know anything about the area. could anyone fill me in on good places/neighborhoods to live? Any pros to southern ohio? i could use ideas to sell this move to my husband!
I noticed that Springfield (near Dayton) has quite a few openings. Does anyone know anything about that area or the school system? I did note that their report card was not the greatest.

If you are invited to an interview, you will be asked to present a 15 minute lesson. I know this, because I am invited to interview for their English Teacher position at their high school later on this week. I have applied through postal mail and have not received any invitations to interview. Getting a teacher interview in Ohio is a blessing since the teacher job market is so tough.
Basically, you will be asked a set of ...See MoreThis has actually become pretty standard in the last 5 years or so. Every interview I have ever been on in the central Ohio area has used a screening interview (I believe it is created by a company called Gallup) and Teacher Insight online survey (by the same company) prior to the screening interview.
Basically, you will be asked a set of standard questions--the same questions every other person will be asked. You will be given a score for each of your answers, and your score will need to meet a set minimum (already decided by the school) in order to make it to the next step in the process. Usually, these interviews are tape recorded.
What stinks about the whole process is that you will be asked the same screening questions at each school. So, if you are giving the "wrong" answers, you are consistently going to give the "wrong" answers without receiving any feedback. The benefit of this screening process is solely for the school's human resources--they can weed people out quickly.
Good luck!

The best way to secure my position is to add another teaching license in a core subject area. I have noticed programs that are only 5 classes, but only lead to a supplemental license (which requires you to teach in that subject area - which is problematic b/c I'm currently using my bus. ed. license - and I am not going to ask the school to rearrange schedules, hire a bus. teacher to replace me, etc. all for the sake of my prof. dev).
I am wondering...will I have to do student teaching again?
That will make it next to impossible for me to do this, because I would have to quit my job/take a leave of absence...forego weeks/months of income...and spend the money to student teach.
Same problem for Praxis 3, b/c in order to have someone come and observe you teaching a class...you have to be assigned to teach that class. But if its only a backup plan for me...I will still be teaching my business education classes. Do these problems make sense?
Or...is student teaching and Praxis 3 something you only have to complete once?
I currently teach high school and middle school computers....but would like to add a middle school math license.
My department and I had another meeting with administration....and clearly enrollment numbers are always going to be an issue with me at my current position.
I'm sick of the threats that there aren't enough students to justify keeping me full time.
I'm getting an additional license...and if I need to be part time in the business department, and a part time intervention specialist....so be it. Whatever it takes!
