I am doing a research project about how teachers decide what type of classroom management techniques to use. Part of my research is also to find out if teachers think that their college education prepared them for dealing with classroom behaviors.
I am posting a link to my anonymous survey (using Google-Docs). I would greatly appreciate it if you could find the time to complete the 17 item survey. Most of the items are on a scale of 1-5, so it should only take a few minutes to complete it.
The link to take the survey should be below my name.
Our union reps took documentation to our supt and board of education to request an extension on our current contract--no changes, no concessions on the part of either party--and our board of education gave a resounding no, reporting that they would prefer to wait and see what happens with SB5 before taking any action on our contracts. Sad situation.
It's nice to "see" you again! I remember chatting with you before on this chatboard. Wow....that is a sad situation. I guess you'll be happy when SB 5 rolls in; then you'll only pay 15% of your insurance, right? I remember chatting with you before on this chatboard. Wow....that is a sad situation. I guess you'll be happy when SB 5 rolls in; then you'll only pay 15% of your insurance, right? We are looking at our insurance cost (per member) more than doubling per month when it goes into effect, but we've accepted no raises many, many, many times to keep insurance costs low. In the past, we have typically negotiated 3 year contracts (sometimes 2 years with the chance to re-open on the 3rd year; what has usually happened is that we have chosen not to re-open for fear of insurance getting jacked up.) I'm sure this will be a one year contract until SB5 is hammered out. Since I posted, our super has told us that the board will be happy to begin the negotiations process, but told us that there WILL be a reduction in force this spring due to budget issues. He basically said that the number of teachers let go will be determined by negotiations (so we're the bad guys if we ask for a raise, like we would have, anyway.) I suspect we'll ask to continue with our current contract for another year and hope that they agree. Since boards really hold ALL of the cards right now, we're all crossing our fingers. To my teacher friends who are looking for a job in the field or are facing losing yours, my heart breaks for you. We are trying our very best to help you. We aren't just employed teachers, we are parents of students and we want what's best for the children, too. We want YOU to be employed, too. You will eventually have the chance to be here as older members retire; the question will be whether you wait for that chance or find something in another field.

She is a Broad Academy graduate and has torn our district apart in less than 2 years. On paper it looks like she's done a great job of decreasing suspensions and expulsions. In reality the students that need to be suspended or expelled are not even written referrals. Why? Principals and teachers are afraid of losing their jobs. She has spent $67 million more dollars in the past two years than were spent the year before she arrived. She lies. She told the teachers' union that she wouldn't lay off teachers if we agreed to freeze our contract for one year. We did that. She laid off almost 700 certified staff members. This year she has laid off more than 500 certified nontenured staff and 29 tenured certified staff. She hasn't started in on paraprofessionals or bus drivers or other noncertified staff. She only has until the 30th to do more damage to our district. She previously was Chief of Staff for your former mayor, Michael White. From what I understand that was a huge mess! Anyway, look out! She may be coming your way. Kathy
