I am miserable in my new position and I don't think I'll last the year. What are the consequences of breaking my contract at this time? How would I go about resigning? I have been teaching in the district for 10 years and they have been treating me terribly for the last 5 and I don't know why.
If you are non-union, talk to the HR person at your district's main office. I don't have a lot of information to go on here, but I'm curious about "I've been treated badly for the last 5 years". What do you mean? Hostile workers? Unreasonable demands and requests? You need to find out what is grievable, and what is required of your contract.
Good luck!

My principal is using the pilot for the new state evaluation tool on us this year. It will go into effect for everyone next year. I am having trouble understanding it. Has anyone used it, and do you have any tips for me? I teach second grade. Thanks in advance!
What are teacher's thoughts sbout the new unfunded mandated third grade guaranteee. It seems unreasonable to me. Does anyone else feel thst way. I am not bitter and my classes have done very well on the 4th grade OAA tests. I love traching but the increased stress is taking its toll.

Clearly "Whining over not...See MoreWhining Over Nothing is an idiot (with all due respect). And, the law would be on my side should I pursue copyright protection. I'd buy books to give to her if it meant she'd stay away from my blood, sweat, and tears. My creative work is what makes my lessons unique. Its the reason parents request me as a teacher.
Clearly "Whining over nothing" didn't read all my posts. I have tried to safeguard my materials. But what do you do with someone who is willing to pick through garbage? I've even put my garbage in trash cans that are not located in our classroom.
I suspect Whining over nothing has never created original classroom materials to understand that it represents an obscene amount of work and time. It represents time that I could have been spending with my family. While my lazy coworker leaves at 2:45 each day to go be a soccer mom.
I don't think so.
I'm go through materials this weekend. Then I am organizing what I want protected into a binder. This, I am sending to the US Federal Copyright office.
I just hope its timely and a smooth process to get my materials copyrighted. I am not publishing...just hoping to copyright.
I will keep you posted. The gravy train is over. The leech must find another source to mooch off of.

In the meantime, go ahead and put a copyright symbol and your name on the bottom of anything that you pass out to the student because that by itself DOES legally establish some copyright rights to you. And it means she can't claim she didn't know the materials were yours if she tries to use them again.

I taught at a school like that. Zzzzzz... what a bore. Not to mention it's so insulting that the "program" knows better than I do how to teach. Admin would bring a copy of the teacher's manual when evaluating us to ensure we're following the program. The whole grade level all had to be on the same page on the same day. Kids didn't understand yesterday's lesson? Too bad, move on. We can't reteach since our small group time and centers are laid out for us as well.
Transfer ASAP! You will be blamed when the students don't perform, even though you are following the program. Instead of thinking thhe program failed, they will say you did. Look at these test scores!!!! I have been there, done this.

I really didn't think that they could dictate exactly what materials I choose to use. Yes, I will be trying to get to another building for next year. Thanks to you both for responding.
