Retiree looking to continue teaching. If anyone knows of any openings in Fulton county or Toledo area, I would appreciate a heads up. Ther is an opening at evergreen High School in metamora, OH.
My kids found this math game online. They get to be a math ninja and search for numbers that fill in problems. (Problems with missing addends and such) It's called Number Ninja and has around 5 or 6 different types of math. [link removed]
Has anyone taken online HQT courses from Ohio's Central ESC? I am required to take Math, Science and Social Studies this summer in order to become HQ in those areas and I'm wondering how difficult it will be. Any info would be appreciated.

I am a doctoral student in Columbus, Ohio, looking for participants for a research study on teachers who teach full-time and work a second job (including summer work). Our research team would like to look at how teachers arrive at the decision to take on a second job, how they manage and navigate the dual responsibilities, and what are the implications of working two jobs on not only their professional lives and teaching but on their personal lives as well.

Pay scale is based at the local level; not even county level. I think my district is the lowest paying one in my county right now. You can look here to compare contracts. http://www.serb.state.oh.us/sections/research/WEB_CONTRACTS /WebContracts.htm In my district, you can be placed "up to ten" years on the salary scale based on your previuos employment (so you'd be gold), but if you don't KNOW that, they may not honor it. My district played dirty to a new teacher who moved in from out of state; once she realized what they had done vs. What they should have done, it was deemed too late to fix it. So definitely look at contracts of any school that you think will offer you a position to be sure you know your rights.

I haven't mentored a second year teacher. Suggestions? I don't want any surprises near the end of the school year. Yes, I've checked the ODE website. But, if you've been through it, I'd appreciate any knowledge you can share.
