Again...See MoreI heard on the news that NW Classen fired Joe Quigley, quite possibly due to his continued support and advocacy for LGBT students and the Gay/Straight Alliance.
I am NOT looking to start a morality war on this board. My ONLY question is - is 'sexual orientation' a protected status with the Oklahoma State Board of Education?
Again - I am NOT looking to start a morality war with several posts regarding anyone's opinion, I just want this question answered.
I am not trying to be snotty. I am not from Oklahoma. Is being gay there considered a justified cause for termination? Or is Oklahoma a state where they don't need a reason to fire you? I didn't know anybody but the military fired people for being gay
Our Republican legislature and governor created and signed into law a bill that allows school districts to more easily fire "bad" teachers. Unfortunately, this law is being used to weed out teachers who are for whatever reason, undesireable.
I'm looking for a Mrs. Crystal Jones that taught at Porter Junior High in 2004-2005. I have a letter of appreciation for you from one of your former students.
My advice - legitimately study, relax, and you'll do fine. I REALLY suggest paying the $30 for the XAMonline OGET study guide. I bought it at Barnes and Noble, I studied hard (as in, went somewhere away from a PC and studied), and I did just fine on the test.
You have to know how to write an essay (any teacher should)... the math was simple math and all formulas are provided.
Good luck to all who take it on May 30th. Study and you'll do FINE!

It looks like they have made changes to other parts of the alt certified program as well. Such as the number of education hours you are required to complete. I wonder if this effects people who have already been accepted into the program?
Secondly, if someone is on the alternative certification route already in a different subject area and is wanting to do early childhood or special education, how does the deadline effect him or her? I mean, the altern. ed. certification process is going through, but the jobs available require more tests for certification. Do they need to be taken pre-Nov 1?
