I am a certified teacher in Texas. I am moving to Oklahoma with my family. Can you tell me if I will need to be recertified? I know most states want teachers to take their certification tests, but there are a few that will accept other state certification. I am hoping this change will be easy.

I moved from Texas three years ago and I had to take a test. It was easy. Be ready for a cut in pay.

I was in my college bookstore at ECU and they had some study guides that I wished I would've known about in advance. I didn't come across them until after I had already taken the Elementary Ed subtest and OPTE: PK-8 so I didn't want to buy them until I found out whether I passed or failed. They had quite a bit of info in the OPTE: PK-8 study guide which I wished I would've had a while in advance to look at. The only thing is that the study guide's were about $38 so I held off. The link to their website is
DLCLook at a Barnes and Noble store for Study Guides -- in the OKLAHOMA section. Study guides are available for many Subject Area Tests. Online you can an Elementary Education Study Guide at: [link removed]
If the bills in the House pass, the one that takes away our yearly pay increase and the one that makes districts pay a minimum for our insurance, will you stay in teaching?

I have submitted a request for the TCRP interview and I am just wondering what happens during this interview process? Are there several interviewers? It would also be very helpful to get an idea of some of the interview quesitons that they typically ask. I would greatly appreciate any help in getting an idea of this process.
I went throught the TCRP interview. Its a first come first serve basis, so get there early. There might be two people or most likely one. They ask you 1-5 questions about why you want to be a teacher. Just be honest and open.
I've taken the opte test now 2 times and I just am not passing the essays. I have no idea what in the world I'm doing wrong. With having a year experience of a being a substitute in a 2nd grade classroom, I'm completely baffled as to why I'm failing with this test. I'm beyond frustrated. If you have any suggestions, I would welcome them!! Thank you

How long does it take to get the interview scheduled for the TCRP? I have been waiting for three weeks for an appointment but haven't received any communication from them. Should I be concerned?

You need to stay on them and keep calling. Stand your groun
Don't wait for job openin...See MoreUnfortunately, it will be very hard this year. Most districts are in hiring freezes, and many of them may perform layoffs.
You may not be able to get interviews until late summer, when districts have a better idea of finances and enrollment. Most administrators are not able to predict anything currently.
Don't wait for job openings to be posted. Contact the schools where you want to work and drop off resumes. Call and follow up. That way, if they do have an opening, hopefully they'll remember your name.
Good luck!

I am currently an non-certified substitute teacher working in Moore ISD. I have a B.A. in Theatre. Unfortunately, I began my B.A. in theatre under the understanding that I could become certified in teaching theatre at the high school level. My univeristy, however, did not inform me that this was incorrect until two months before my graduation. Since then, I have been substitute teaching and have since changed my goal to Early Childhood Education after many days of enriching and wonderful experiences subbing for elementary-age kids. I am now searching for the right path to become an Elementary School Teacher. I've been looking at all sorts of websites and guides, but I have yet to find a clear, planned-out path for someone like me. I know what tests I need, but I do not know how I can qualify for a general license with consideration to what I have so far. I know that I do NOT want to spend another four years on another Bachelor's Degree. I would like to go to Graduate School for a Master's in Education, but do not wish to do so until after I have had a few years teaching (for the experience and job opportunities - not to mention the money needed for graduate school that I would first need to earn). Is there a program/place where I could seek help? Maybe find a teacher or counselor who could walk me through a process that would benefit me the most?
-B.A. in Theatre -Non-certified, Unlicensed -Less than 6 mo. Substitute Teaching -Wanting Early Childhood -Can Test (from degree) for Drama OSAT (016) -Looking Towards Testing for: OGET; OPTE PK-8 (050/051), Early Childhood (005) -Looking Towards Liscencing for: Elem. Education 1-8 (1600/1501); Drama/Speech PK-12 (4250)
Thank you again. I'm very hopeful that the right persons may find this and, at least, point me in some sure and defined direction.
