Doing the Alternative Certification. Will it make a difference in obtaining a job if your OGET, OSAT test scores are high or do they only look at if you passed with a 240? For that matter, will the OCTP application look better if you have higher test scores?

OU-SoonerIn which district? If you're in Tulsa Public Schools, (TPS) then you're considered probationary until you have worked three full years.

Though a generous grant from The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, 10-12 Oklahoma teachers will have five days of top quality online journalism instruction at the University of Oklahoma. You’ll learn how to start your own website, shoot video (with simple FlipVideo cameras) and produce a class website. You’ll also learn about Twitter, CoverItLive, TwitterCam, tinychat, SchoolTube, Facebook and much, much more.
This workshop is produced by the High School Broadcast Journalism Program of the Radio Television Digital News Foundation in conjunction with the Oklahoma Scholastic Media Association’s Oklahoma High School Newspaper Workshop.
You do NOT have to be a journalism teacher to apply. All Oklahoma high school teachers are welcome. We will pay for your transportation and hotel -- plus a daily stipend.
...See MoreI am taking the OGET and OSAT in English this month. I am worried about the math section of the OGET. I am in my early 40's and never had to learn Geometry and am a little familiar with Algebra.
I feel confident about passing the other test sections.
Does anyone have any advice? Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill?
I thought the math portion of the OGET was easy. You are given the formulas. I had perfect scores in the math sections, and I haven't had math classes in 14 years. I would just refresh yourself with simple Algerbra and terms in Geometry. Good luck!
I am in the process of getting my Bach Degree in Education (Elementary) and just curious what other people think about the demand (if there is any) for teachers in general in Oklahoma? Does anyone think with all the layoffs, state of the economy, budget cuts, etc., that it's even worth going into Education at this point? I continue to want and hope that I can complete/finish my degree within the next 2 years but the the way everyone is talking- --it's a bad deal to be going into this field. However, I feel like everything is bound to turn around sooner or later and I should just stick with my current plan and plan on completing my degree. Anyone have any thoughts on this suject, I would appreciate hearing it...

I am in the process of getting my degree in Elementary Education. I am interested in teaching Kindergarten and know that before you simply had to take the Early Childhood OSAT to be able to teach PK or K. Is that still the case, or do you know have to obtain a separate certificate for Early Childhood Education?

State Superintendent of Public Instruction State of Oklahoma
Dear Superintendent:
House Bill 2747 becomes effective July 1, 2010. This bill provides a two-year window for certain teachers to add early childhood, elementary education, or special education to their certification by testing only. Attached is a chart to assist in identifying those teachers eligible for this option. This window will expire on July 1, 2012.
Specific allowances in House Bill 2747 are:
Any teacher who became certified to teach elementary education prior to July 1, 2010, may be certified in early childhood education by passing the early childhood subject area exam by July 1, 2012. Any teacher who became certified to teach early childhood education prior to July 1, 2010, may be certified in elementary education by passing the elementary education subject area exam by July 1, 2012. Any teacher who became certified to teach through completion of an accredited teacher preparation program (traditional program) prior to July 1, 2010, may be certified in special education by passing the mild-moderate and/or severe-profound subject area exam(s) by July 1, 2012.* Any teacher who became certified to teach through the Troops to Teachers program prior to July 1, 2010, may be certified in special education by passing the mild-moderate and/or severe-profound subject area exam(s) by July 1, 2012.*
*Special note: Teachers taking these exam(s) must still meet the definition of highly qualified special education teacher to serve students at their respective level.
A copy of House Bill 2747 is also attached for your review. Should you have any questions, please contact Dr. Ramona Paul, Assistant State Superintendent, at (405) 521-4311.

Pretty much it is saying that you needed to have graduated or held a license by July 1, 2010 and you then had a two year window to take the test. If not, then you must take the course required from an accredited university and the student teaching component in order to have the additional certification in ECE or Sp ED. Hope this helps.

I was reading on the CEOE website that the scoring on the OGET is 80% for the questions and 20% for the essay. 80% of 300 is 240 which is a passing score. So could you bomb the essay and get 0 points and still end up passing the test because you got all of the questions right?
I've applied to about 10 different schools for counselor positions. I have only heard from one, and it was a letter saying that they had hired someone. How do you go about getting an interview with the schools? Am I missing something?
