Greetings and thank you for reading. One year ago, I decided to quit my corporate job and pursue my dream of teaching. I acquired my job through promotions and never finished (or barely started) my degree. I most would like to teach in a middle school setting, and while math is my favorite subject I am not confident that I can complete the course requirements for a degree in math education. I also enjoy social studies but I am afraid that a job teaching social studies will be hard to come by. If I am unable to teach middle school, I would like to teach elementary school, 4th or 5th grade. I just finished my first year at OCCC where I plan to complete my basics and finish my degree at UCO with a bachelor's in Elementary Education. I know some states allow for a middle school endorsement but cannot find any information on this regarding teaching in Oklahoma. congratulations! I was happy to read that the calling to teach is still alive and well. If you teach at the Middle School level, you will have to obtain your degree in Elementary Education and pass certification tests for the subject/s you want to be able to teach. Christine I am in my final year at NSU for Elem Ed and you are certified to teach 1 - 8 grade with this degree. You just have to pass subject area tests for the subject you want to teach in middle school. Good luck!
