I'm a second career teacher (44 years old, three years exp. as a 5th -8th grade teacher ) who moved to Portland last fall with a full CA CLAD MS credential. It took me until early spring to obtain a basic OR license and become comfortable using EDZAPP. I'm willing to accept a job all but the Southernmost counties and I've sent out electronic apps and zapps to approximately forty districts with just one interview request so far. Four years ago when I was transmitting the same essential data throughout CA (via EDJOIN), I was averaging three to five interviews a week! What am I missing? I have added experience, glowing references from my three year tenure at my former school, BTSA and COMP certification to my "package" - shouldn't I be getting some bites? One thing, I felt like I was getting the brushoff from the district booth gatekeepers when I attended the Portland job fair. Later in the day, while washing up in the restroom, I caught a look at my own, lived in, 44 year old image and suddenly felt a bit out of place amongst the vast throngs of fresh, youthful faces around me. I'm trying to quell the demoralizing impulse to start "shadowboxing" and would like to recieve some objective, professional input from a person or a service with the eyes and the inside knowledge, specific to Oregon's public education system, that might see what I'm missing. I'm a damn good teacher! However, this whole experience is starting to get to me. Please help!

I have a MS-Reading and BS-ELED from Nebraska (passed the PPST years ago). I moved to OR almost 2 years ago (I am currently a SAHM) and am in the process of obtaining licensure here. I am signed up to sub in order to put in my 180 days of service before I can obtain licensure here. So far, there have been no available dates to substitute teach (I admit I can't be available 24/7 with young kids in the house)and I'm getting frustrated. 180 days seems excessive to me...What was your experience in getting licensure in Oregon? Thanks so much and good luck to you!! On 9/05/08, get certified in special ed..... wrote: > I came from the midwest and had SO many interview requests from > very desirable districts. As part of a graduate research project, I need to gather data from current teachers. I’m researching the use of technology in the classroom and what factors affect it. If you could just take a few minutes to complete my survey, I’d appreciate it. The survey is online and has 15 questions.

Hello all! I'm looking for an elementary class that is interested in a postcard exchange project. If you, or someone you know, is interested please let me know. I'm missing a participant for your state.
For this exchange, we will all send a postcard to the other 49 state participants during the school year that contains a real-life (not kid-drawn) picture of their state (or a feature of the state) and some fun facts for the students to learn. (I saw vistaprint.com had some good deals on state postcards bought in bulk). Once I gather all the state participants, I'll forward the addresses of everyone before school starts (in label format so you can peel and stick). In this email I will let everyone know what month they are to send their cards out. This way we get them throughout the year. I will also try my best to send a friendly reminder at the beginning and end of the month for those who are to send out to help remind everyone.
Please email me with the following information so I can mark you down as the participant for your state.
Your name (with appropriate abbr. Miss, Ms., Mrs., Mr.) Your school name Your school address Your grade level
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at [email removed])!
I will be teaching fourth grade in Oregon this year, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a historical fiction novel to start off the year. Thank you for your suggestions!

Only 1 elementary classroom from each state will be represented & it's on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Email me immediately ([email removed]!
Once I add you to my state list and close that state, I will send you a confirmation email (Yippee) that you've made it in!
When all 50 states are represented I will compose a mailing list and email it to you. I will create the state list in a label ready format for you to just print out!
You will be mailing 49 postcards(ask for postcard & postage donations from PTA/PTO, parents, grants, etc.)
Postcards should start to be be mailed out in September. All postcards should be postmarked by Friday, December 19, 2008. This works out to be about 3-4 postcards per week which is definatly managable.
If your interested, and serious about following through, please email me:
Your name Grade Level school name school address
*(Also let me know if you'd like to be in this exchange annually or not. This way we can secure a base of states for the following school year!)
I will let you know if you've made it into this exchange.
Come join in on the fun and endless teaching opportunities that await you AND your students!
