My kindergarten class is going to be studying Oregon in the Fall. I am interested in contacting a class in Oregon. If you are interested and teach K or 1 please email me.
I am from Portland and am currently a teacher at the French American Center in Montpellier, France. This summer (July 30th to August 20, 2002) I am bringing a wonderful group of French students ages 13-19 to discover beautiful Portland. I am looking for families who would be interested in hosting one of these students for their three week stay. If you are interested or can give me any advice on helpful contacts, I would be extremely grateful.

May I add that these illicit thoughts are the furthest thing in a "healthy" child's mind. And any child that would be prone to these thoughts would not likely be stirred by pajamas any more than regular attire. A pajama party is a great all inclusive event and a way to for kids to open up about night time concerns.
I make a counting page on dark blue paper and have my preschool children glue on colorful star punch-outs. After the gluing is finished the child must count the stars on the page with me. It's a simple pre-math activity that my students enjoy.
My husband and I want to live in Oregon. We know that things are bleak for Oregon education right now. However, we still want to relocate in the next year or two. We are both certified teachers in Florida. Any input on vibrant communities that might hire us would be appreciated.

Hi Beth,
Yes, things are VERY bleak for our education system right now. Exteme budget cuts mean that many jobs will be cut next year. I live in Tigard, a suburb of Portland. You might want to try the Lake Oswego School District, or West Linn. Both are known for their schools (people move there just for them) and they are in an affluent part of our community. I'm not sure, however, how the budget cuts will affect them. Good luck!

I have been told by Eugene District 4J administrators that Sp.Ed. is one of the few areas in which they will be hiring. Almost everyone I know loves it here.

Politicians think teachers are public servants. So do I. I don't think I'll ever vote for anyone who doesn't have 20 years of demonstratible excellence in helping children. Would this bring about a government of, by, & for the people? Who is going to be the next person I can vote for?
Childeren are sponges....they'll absorb whatever you give them. The teachers need to be experienced and have pations. No one that isn't good with childeren or understand the importance of them should not run this country or have a seat in the cabinit or be a teacher! George Bush is not a good president. He only thinks of danger of us being attaked. There are more important things in life then preparing for now and thats preparing for the future...the childeren are the childeren.

Teachers are diving into summer school at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and earning credit for their continuing marine biology education. Two different TEAMS programs—short for Teaching Educators About Marine Science—allow teachers to combine continuing education credit with their visit to the coast.
On July 10-12, TEAMS: Marine Invertebrates get up close and personal with the spineless wonders of the sea in a three- day workshop designed for elementary and middle school teachers. Teachers K-8 go home with activities, knowledge and a new appreciation for these incredible invertebrates to share with their students. Cost is $175 and preregistration is required by Wednesday, June 26. Two graduate credits and/or 20 Washington State Clock Hours are available for TEAMS: Marine Invertebrates. For more information or to register, please call 541-867-3474, ext. 5301.
From August 11-16, elementary school teachers (K-5) will join Oregon Coast Aquarium education specialists, animal husbandry staff and visiting scientists in TEAMS: Marine Ecosystems, a week-long exploration of marine habitats and the plants and animals living there. Participating teachers take field trips, listen to lectures, try their hand at curriculum activities and make crafts.
TEAMS: Marine Ecosystems program gives teachers a fresh passion for teaching marine science along with the information and the materials necessary to lead students on their own ocean journey. This course is available for four graduate credits through Western Oregon University and/or 40 Washington State Clock Hours. Cost for TEAMS: Marine Ecosystems is $250. Advanced registration is required by Friday, July 26, by calling 541-867-3474, ext. 5301.
Two scholarships are also available for each TEAMS program, with application material available through the Aquarium. All TEAMS participants also receive an educators’ discount in the Oregon Coast Aquarium gift shop for the purchase of additional curriculum packages as well as other educational materials and teaching aids.
