Hello my husband and I plan on moving to Oregon, summer
2007. He can teach math plus he has a Masters. So he will
hopefully not have a problem getting hired, I however will
struggle. I have a multi subject with Masters but no
teaching experience. We already bought a house, in Redmond
(it is being rented). I plan to sub, and he will teach.
Within a year I hope to be hired. Does our dream seem like
it could become a reality? Please provide your opinions and
information. Thanks. Email me also.

I live there for 3 years in the late 90's, subbing in Bend and Redmond and only got 1
interview for a teaching position, the entire time. That was for the Indian reservation
in Madras which would have been about an hour drive from my home half way
between Bend and Redmond. It is ridiculously competitive. There's...See More

many of those! Districts will stop accepting mor...See More

licensed subs and most of them are highly educated and fully
credentialed. I don't know how many of the districts place folks with
a substitute license on their list. Many seldom need to but do it
just to hedge their bets. I believe the turnover is h...See More

Lacey I lived in Bend for a year, subbed during that time. I got one interview just on my own. The teacher's fair was completely pointless. You get time with principals, but when they don't have openings, what are they supposed to do? I never did get a position in Bend, this was in 2004-2005. Anyone know if the conditions are any better now? I have moved...See More

Your best bet is to get sped certification.. Jobs all over the place - resource room isn't really too bad, small class sizes, you can get a job in Portland metro area, Salem, Eugene....
