I am moving from California to Oregon and would like to get my teaching license. Many of the programs seem to take a very long time. Are there any programs that are a bit shorter than 2 years? Are there any ways to make money or work as a teacher while obtaining my elementary teaching license?
Liz You cannot sub in Oregon without a teaching license. You may be able to work as an aide, but jobs are really scarce right now.

TT eople with bachelor's degrees can get substitute teaching licenses. However, for long-term sub assignments, one has to have a regular Oregon teaching license.

Jessica Thanks! That is what I thought. I have been doing research and people can sub without a credential with provisions.

Liz I've never seen a school district take a non certified teacher as a sub, but maybe there are some that do because they have a desperate need.

Julie I've heard that the only way to get a sub position without a credential in OR is for a specific district to hire you, solely for their district. Which basically means - start networking!

By the way ... there are many programs out there that are under 2 years. I believe PSU, Lewis & Clark, Willamette U, Concordia, among others offer 11-...See More
