I recently quit my job in Denver and am waiting for a job in Providence to come through. In the mean time I would like to inquire about teaching. I have a bachlors in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Math. I figured I could maybe sub in the mean time. I figure I could teach any level math or physics as I used to tutor at my church, and some of my teamates during our road games in college.
Contact the RI Dept. of Ed. With your bachelor's, I believe you can get emergency certification in order to sub. Be selective about where you sub, though. I know that Providence pays a lot, but you should be aware of what it takes to sub in an urban district, compared to somewhere like Cumberland or Lincoln. As for teaching full time, thanks to that lovely NCLB and needing to be highly qualified in teaching in your content area, you would have to get teacher certification (look into RI College).

I am hoping to find a secondary math position in RI next fall- does anyone know which districts might have openings? I have checked district websites, sent in cold applications, set up a SchoolSpring account...but I wanted a human being's perspective.
Remember, Rhode Island is a small state. You could live in RI and work in Massachusetts or Connecticut, depending on your location. Depending on where you want to live in RI you may want to look into either of those possibilities.

Yes, I had thought of that late in the game... So I currently have a credential pending review in RI, CT and MA! I am drowning in paperwork and on the edge of my seat.
The search continues for an RI job (which it sounds like will be available late summer), I think I missed the boat on CT jobs (which post very early) and we'll see about MA.
As part of a graduate research project, I need to gather data from current teachers. I’m researching the use of technology in the classroom and what factors affect it. If you could just take a few minutes to complete my survey, I’d appreciate it. The survey is online and has 15 questions.

I am looking to find information on substitute teaching in Providence. I heard that you get benefits and work steadily everyday. I have been searching for a way to apply and cannot find anything.
I would appreciate any information that anyone has on this.
Hi I'm looking for my 4th grade teacher by the name of Ms. Shannon at the time. She was a teacher at Laurel Hill Elementary and taught me in the school year 1999-2000. If any one knows her whereabouts email or anything please tell her to write to me at [email removed].
Try calling the school to find out if they know where she is and will forward a letter/note to her if you send one to the school.
Try calling the Providence School System main number and see if she is still in the system or they can forward something to her. Even if she is retired they may know where she is.
Neither of these will give you her address, email, or phone number. They may forward something.
