Looking for teachers in SC to evaluate new virtual school.
Can a person with a 13 year old non violent felony conviction who is certified to teach in New York State work as a substitute teacher in South Carolina?
You know all felony convictions can be found out about regardless of where you live.
Furthermore, you have to disclose a felony conviction on any application for a license, including a sub license and on school district job applications.

However, I am hoping that after they fill positions in-house and also place outsiders that have "connections"...that there might still be one or two positions available for highly qualified applicants. It's a shot in the dark, but I am not willing to go south of the Broad. My mom lives in hh and has alzhiemers. If I can't be near her, I will have to relocate her closer to me. How about Bluffton? Any chance for me there? Thank you so much for your honest response. :

Update: I am happy to say that I have been hired to teach fifth grade in Hilton Head. Yay!!!! :)
I know Jasper County School district is one of the worst in the state as far as achievement and growth. I'm interested to know though what is it like to teach in that district. Anybody out there ever taught in this district? What are the pros, cons? Are teachers supported by admin?

If you are not a black person born and bred in South Carolina, I believe the chances of getting hired hear are slim to none. The whole job market here in general is about who you know and who knows you! If somebody's best friend, uncle, daddy, grandpa, next door neighbor,or good ole' spot the dog in the doghouse can't vouch for you, you will have a very hard time getting hired here.
Then on top of those circumstances add being black ( especially a black male) and your chances of being hired just got 100 times harder. That has been my personal experience and what I have seen here. Most black people here live on the poor side of town in the poorest neighborhoods, some in very segregated neighborhoods. I have even had a black entrepreneur tell me, "It's racist here". The racism is not overt , it's hidden. They will ask you to come in for that interview, smile and send you home with a "we'll be in touch". This is typical of the whole county wide system, not just the schools. Equal opportunity is a pretense hear unless you know someone or are a "token". While Greenville County may have wonderful schools and the city is safe and beautiful, if your black, think twice before coming here.
Don't be fooled and don't make the same mistake I did.
Blackballed 2 I have experienced the same thing in Horry County since I moved here in 2008. You ain't getting nothing here unless "you is white". Truth be told.
