I am a recent college graduate and I majored in Biology. I am seeking employment at the moment for middle school or high school science. There is a program in North Carolina that allows you to teach in the classroom and complete the teaching requirements to be certified as you go along (ie: praxis exams). However, you must find your own employment. I am in the process of looking--but I wanted to know if South Carolina has any program of that sort. I have not taken any of my praxis exams yet but do intend on doing so. I'm just looking to start employment and very much would like to work in the Rock Hill York School district. I have read some information about an alternative route critical needs conditional certificate but I do not know who to contact in regards to that. If you could please give me any helpful information I would greatly appreciate it!!!
You should contact the SC Dept. of Education. The PACE program is what you are looking for.

thank you..i haven't tested though. Isnt the praxis test a requirement before you can get your letter of eligibility? I am trying to start teaching by august and there's no way I can be 100% that I can test and start before august. tOn 6/09/08, PACE applicant wrote: > You should contact the SC Dept. of Education. The program you are mentioning is called PACE (Program of Alternate Certification for Educators). It requires that you have a college decree in the subject that you will teach. You teach, and make a regular salary while you are in the program. You have to make a 3-year committment. During the 3 years, you take a class (a couple of weeks in the summer, and some weekends during the school year). At the end you have a regular teaching credential. I suggest that you contact the personnel office at school district where you would like to work, and ask about employment through the PACE program. Good luck with this.

thanks Diana...but they require me to take the Praxis and that's what I was looking for..a program that would atleast require me to fulfill the requirements over the period of time...ie:North Carolina's NC TEACH program doesn't require you to have the tests first thing. Thank you for your response!!

As part of a graduate research project, I need to gather data from current teachers. I’m researching the use of technology in the classroom and what factors affect it. If you could just take a few minutes to complete my survey, I’d appreciate it. The survey is online and has 15 questions.

IS THERE ANY OTHER ALTERNATIVE LICENSURE PROGRAM BESIDES PACE? ANYTHIING THAT DOESN'T REQURE THE TESTING REQUIREMENTS IE: PRAXIS TO BE FULFILLED UP FRONT UPON ENTERING THE TEACHING FIELD? THANKS
In the grand scheme of things and with comparison to other careers do you think that teaching is a stressful occupation? Especially if you teach special education? What are your thoughts?
I agree that it is very stressful. I think one factor is job security. If you are working without a good contract and protection, that doubles the stress. My husband was let go when he was 55. That happens to so many people when they reach the top of the pay scale in business/industry. "Downsizing" they call it. I at least have a secure job and that reduces my stress at the end of the day. Day to day, I think teaching is very stressful. All you need is one crazy kid in your class with their crazy parents to make your life miserable. This year, I had a great class/parents but many people on the staff are what irritate me. Working with lots of snippy people is irritating.
I taught math. It was awful. Very stressful. I quit after one year.

I'm looking to relocate here from the north. I've applied at all the districts in the area but have not heard anything yet. Does anyone know of a recruitment service that helps place teachers here?

Hello, A 4th year postcard exchange is not complete because we need a teacher representative from South Carolina. Please contact me if you would like to exchange postcards with teachers across the USA!! It is lots of fun and can be tied in with any subject area. Let me know soon :)
Hello all! I'm looking for an elementary class that is interested in a postcard exchange project. If you, or someone you know, is interested please let me know. I'm missing a participant for your state.
For this exchange, we will all send a postcard to the other 49 state participants during the school year that contains a real-life (not kid-drawn) picture of their state (or a feature of the state) and some fun facts for the students to learn. (I saw vistaprint.com had some good deals on state postcards bought in bulk). Once I gather all the state participants, I'll forward the addresses of everyone before school starts (in label format so you can peel and stick). In this email I will let everyone know what month they are to send their cards out. This way we get them throughout the year. I will also try my best to send a friendly reminder at the beginning and end of the month for those who are to send out to help remind everyone.
Please email me with the following information so I can mark you down as the participant for your state.
Your name (with appropriate abbr. Miss, Ms., Mrs., Mr.) Your school name Your school address Your grade level
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at [email removed])!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I now have a participant for your state. Thanks so much! I hope everyone enjoys their summer and has a successful 2008-2009 school year!
