Public education in Texas is in BIG trouble! We have a politician in Austin who is from Arlington, and is the head of the education committee. His name is Kent Grusendorf anf he hates teachers! He blames teachers for his son's suicide, and has been punishing teachers since he was elected. If he gets re-elected, we will lose our continuing contracts. We'll also lose our 22-1 class cap for K-3, and our 30-minute duty-free lunch (I never knew those existed until I came to Texas!) He supports vouchers, which as we all know takes money from public education. There is a lady running against him this year who has a good chance of defeating him. Her name is Diane Patrick. Early voting for this primary election is Feb 21 - March 3, and the regular election is March 7. We have it on good authority that he plans to initiate a nasty smear campaign against her just prior to the primary. Those of us who care about our children are asking that voters who live in District 94 call, write, or email their friends and family to ask them to vote for Diane Patrick. We're even asking those dyed-in-the-wool, straight-Democrat-ticket voters to, JUST THIS ONCE, to vote in the primary, vote early, and vote for Diane Patrick. If you have friends or family in the Arlington, Texas, area please forward this email to them and ask them to help us defeat Kent Grusendorf. Thanks, and have a great rest-of-the-year!
Any thoughts on this school district? I like a little more laid back and rural, but I don't think this school district has this. I see many schools on year round tracks. Would you have to pack up your room, so that another teacher can use your room when you are off track? Any thoughts appreciated.
I have a parent who was a literacy coach in UT. I'm sorry I can't tell you where because I don't know. Her name is W. Jensen. I would appreciate any info. Thank you.
Hi Utah teachers! I'm a fellow teacher who just happens to live in Ga. I teach 4th grade. I just got a new student from your state. According to the new student (and his mom), you guys don't use textbooks, but EVERYTHING is hands on! That is wonderful! I was wondering how true that is, and if it is true, how do you teach things like Social Studies and Math without a book? I can understand Science being hands-on. I feel like I do many hands-on activities in class, but I'd love to hear what Utah is doing to make your schools so great!:-) My new student is a smart kid who is really having a hard time adjusting to the way Georgia does things. I'm trying to make his transition as easy as possible. Anyway, share your secrets!:-) Ally 4th
I've taught in Utah. Don't believe everything. Yes, we still use books here, for every subject.

What school is this student coming from? We just moved here to Utah from GA and we were in an amazing school there (Duncan Creek Elementary) and I am worried that we won't have the same experience here! I miss the people in GA, everyone is so nice and sincere there.

My family is relocating to Utah after the current school year. He is a regional rep, so we can live anywhere. What areas are doing the most hiring. I have my National Board Certification, will that help? I am K-8 certified, 11 years experience.
In general, what are job prospects like in Utah???
I would really appreciate your input for a book that my colleague and I are writing for teachers. This book will give teachers ways to help their students become engaged and motivated, as well as practical tools to deal with students difficulties in learning.

Does anyone know what district in Utah is closest to (Northwest) Las Vegas Nevada?........and how long would the commute be?.....say distance.....traffic....time? Thank you.
I would think it would St. George Utah, which I believe is washington county school district. I think the commute would be too long, but you could decide for yourself.
