Hi Utah teachers! We will be studying the state of Utah next spring and are looking for penpals. We are located in South Bend, IN. We would love to hear from another kindergarten class! Looking forward to hearing from you!!!
For years, Utah’s educators have counted on the Newspapers In Education program to supplement their curriculum. This school year, The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News have joined forces to offer a new web-based resource that makes it easier to access and use the newspaper.
At the new site, you can read daily e-Editions of The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News along with archives of previous editions. What’s more, at the site teachers can order daily copies, educational sections (tabs), serialized stories and the Connect 1-2-3 magazine – all at no cost to educators.
My class will be reading the story the Gingerbread Man and doing a project with it. I am asking if anyone would mind assisting with this... if you would like to please email me at [email removed].
Project letter: My name is the Gingerbread Man, my friend in CLass 2H was reading a story about me and i jumped out of the storybook to visit you. My friend at school is wondering where I have run to. Please help them by sending them a picture postcard showing them the area where you live. This postcard will be posted on a large map of the world outside of my classroom. This will help the children by showing them how different parts of the world look. I know my friends will enjoy hearing from you and learning where I have run! Thank you for your help! Got to go! The Gingerbread Man

Last year I completed my MA in political science. This year I've been running my own business that I will soon sell to pursue a teaching career. I don't have any formal secondary education in my college utility belt, but I want to teach secondary social studies.
So I need to get licensed, but I want to teach in another state (the salary difference to me just seems too compelling to stay). I don't want to pay out of state tuition to some outside University, so I'm thinking of getting certified here and then looking elsewhere. The cost of the license program would be over double if I were to move and do it elsewhere. Does anyone have any experience with that? Is that crazy?
I've thought about alternative licensing, but that seems like you need to stay put for at least 3 years and I'm looking to move elsewhere within a year or so. Any thoughts about alternative licensing.
Also, if anyone has any perspective/advice to offer a newbie such as I in teaching secondary social studies I would love to hear it!
Please contact me so we can discuss your options. I am with Grand Canyon University, based out of Phoenix, AZ. I work for the University in the College of Education here in Utah.We have an online format that might give you just the tools thagt you need!!

Have you used this program and if so, what did you think of it? Did you have to stick to the program (basically page by page) or did you have the liberty to modify and supplement as needed. Thanks for sharing
One of the most important books a library in a school should have is a book telling students how to study. See "Teaching and Helping Students Think and Do Better", by Dr. S. Aranoff. Check out reviews on amazon.com. Students and teachers should read this book carefully.
So i just attended a job fair and talked to 4 school districts from Utah. Besides getting me excited to move and work there, they of course insist that they are the best, im sure in their own ways they are. I'm talking about Granite, Jordan, Ogden, and Tooele districts. Just from my own feelings and talking to them i'm leaning towards Granite or Tooele but havent ruled out any at this point. Can anyone give me some insight into what districts might be better for a 24 year old single Geography, Earth/Space Science, Biology starting out teacher? Thanks
I am heading out to Tooele to check out one of the schools that I have interviewed with. It sounds like a really nice place and it isn't that far from SLC. Did you by chance talk to them at the GVSU job fair, I was there as well and that is how I got in contact with them too. I will let you know what I thought of it next week. Good Luck job searching!
Yes, i did get in contact with them at the GVSU fair along with a few others. Yes, it did look very nice, did you interview with a principle or the HR people? Definitely let me know how it goes and what you think as i might be offered a position in that district if my interview goes well next week, they also may want me to go out there, not sure yet. I already talked to a principle in the district but it was in Dugway which is much further south and i dont think would be a good fit for me. Thanks

Hello! We are working on our International Fair projects and our kindergarten team has the US. We have divided up into states and my class has chosen the great state of Utah! The problem is that I know very little about Utah so I am depending on the kindness of the natives. Please email me any thing you would like for us to know about your wonderful state! Ideas, activies, etc. Also, if there is a kindergarten classroom who would like to be penpals, we would love it! We are located in South Bend, IN. Thanks!
